The Vibe

Uda Campsite Sedim sits right by the river in Lubuk Buluh, Kedah — and when I say right by the river, I mean your tent is literally a few steps from the water. The campsite sets up your tent on an elevated cement slab facing the river, with lights strung above the water so you can actually enjoy the view at night. It's a managed setup — not the kind of place where you pitch your own tent in the wild and wing it.

This place caters to both picnic day-trippers and overnight campers, so expect a bit of a mix. Families come for weekend picnics, couples come to escape the city, and groups come to just lepak by the river and grill some food. The vibe is relaxed, the owner is hands-on, and the surrounding nature is genuinely nice. It's not a hardcore jungle camping spot — it's closer to a managed glamping experience where most of the hard work is done for you.

One thing to know — the river here has strong currents and a rocky bottom. There's also a deep water area. Beautiful to look at, but go in with caution. Don't let the kids run wild without supervision near the water.

Getting There

The campsite is in Karangan, Kedah — full address is K174, 09700 Simpang Empat, Karangan. From Sungai Petani, head towards Karangan town, then follow signs towards the Sedim area. If you're coming from the North-South Expressway, exit at Sungai Petani North and make your way toward Karangan. Use Google Maps and search for Uda Campsite Sedim — the pin is accurate. Road is manageable with a normal car, no 4WD needed. Parking is on-site and costs RM5 per car.

What to Expect

This is a well-managed campsite, not a DIY setup in the jungle. When you book the overnight package at RM100 per night, you get the tapak (spot), a tent, a charging extension cord, a BBQ grillsite, and the owner will help set up everything for you. The tent sits on an elevated cement platform right facing the river — which sounds unusual but it actually works. There's a tarp overhead so rain isn't a big problem.

That said, the drainage in the camping area isn't great. One group reported flooding around their tent during heavy rain — the water just pooled up with nowhere to go. So if you're coming during the wet season, that's something to be ready for. The owner is friendly and was reportedly helpful even through a massive downpour, but the infrastructure side could use some work.

Signal coverage is reportedly good — you can actually stream and charge your phone on-site. For a riverside campsite in Kedah, that's a bonus. Check-out is at 11AM. If you're just coming for a picnic, some spots have plug points and a BBQ area too — but note that booking is only valid until 9:30AM, so call ahead if you're planning a day trip.

This spot is best suited for families, couples, or small groups who want a comfortable, managed riverside experience without roughing it too hard. Beginners will feel right at home here. Since the tent is provided but sleeping gear isn't, bring your own mattress, pillow, and blanket. What Campers Are Saying

One camper who booked the overnight package said the RM100 was worth it — tent, grillsite, charging point, and the owner even helped set everything up. She specifically mentioned that the tent on the elevated cement slab right in front of the river, with the tarp overhead, felt both cosy and safe from rain. Her one ask? Bring your own sleeping set because the tent is just a shell.

A group that came for a 4-day 3-night trip loved the environment and said the riverside experience was genuinely enjoyable. The owner helped them get through a rough rainstorm. But they flagged one real issue — the drainage in the camping sandbox isn't effective, and during heavy rain, water flooded around their tents. Something to keep in mind if you're visiting during the rainy months.

A day-tripper noted that the river looks nice but the current is strong and the bottom is rocky, so you need to walk carefully in the water. There's also a deep section. Beautiful spot, but respect the river — don't go in like it's a swimming pool.
