The Vibe

Sumpitan Glamping is exactly what it sounds like — a proper glamping setup, not a DIY campsite. You're not pitching your own tent here. They've got furnished tents with beds, air coolers, plug points, and floor lamps already waiting for you. So if your idea of camping still involves a comfortable night's sleep, this one's for you.

It's set along a river in Kampung Sumpitan, Lenggong — which is already a pretty underrated part of Perak. The place is clean, well-maintained, and has that quiet kampung feel that you just can't fake. Think shady trees, well-kept grass, a stone walking path, and the sound of river water running in the background. Families with kids love it here. Couples too. It's chill, it's safe, and it doesn't feel overrun.

The cherry on top? There's a coffee shop right inside — or just in front of — the campsite. Multiple reviewers brought it up unprompted. That tells you something. The coffee is apparently legit, and the hot chocolate gets a mention too. Honestly, finding good kopi at a campsite is rarer than you'd think.

Getting There

The address is Kampung Sumpitan, 33420 Lenggong, Perak. Lenggong itself is about an hour north of Gerik, or roughly 1.5 to 2 hours from Ipoh depending on your route. The most straightforward way is to take the highway towards Gerik, then follow the signs up to Lenggong town — it's a UNESCO World Heritage area so it's reasonably well-signposted.

From Lenggong town, plug the Google Maps CID link into your phone and follow it in. The roads around Lenggong are mostly sealed and fine for normal cars. Nothing about the route suggests you need a 4WD. Still, if you're going after heavy rain, just be a bit more careful on narrower stretches closer to the kampung.

What to Expect

This is a managed glamping site — so expectations need to be set accordingly. You're not in the middle of the jungle. You're in a nicely tidied riverside spot with gazebos, a walking path, a dipping pool for kids, a common pantry, and furnished tents. It's more resort-lite than rough-and-ready.

Crowd-wise, come during weekdays and you might practically have the place to yourself. One family who visited on a weekday said only three families were there the whole time — felt like a private retreat. Weekends will naturally be busier, but it doesn't sound like it gets chaotic.

The river is clean and the water stays cold even on hot days, which is a big plus. The dipping pool for kids is there but reviewers say it could use some improvement. The chalets are available too if you want a step up from tents.

One honest heads-up: the tents vary in condition. Some guests got tents that were great. Others found mold and poor ventilation — the material traps heat and some had decorative fabric added inside that made it even stuffier. During the day it can feel like a sauna. Nights are more bearable. If you're sensitive to heat, ask about the tent condition when you book. The owner seems responsive — at least one family got to choose their own tent.

What Campers Are Saying

One family who came during weekdays said it felt like the whole place was theirs — only three families total, plenty of space, and the owner let them pick their own tent. They loved it and said they'd come back with more people next time. That kind of return intention says a lot.

Another reviewer gave it 3 stars because of the tents. Everything else — the cleanliness, the staff, the facilities, the coffee shop — was solid. But the tent had mold, the material trapped heat badly, and someone had added wedding-style fabric inside that made it worse. During the day it was nearly unlivable. Nighttime was okay. At the price point they were paying, they felt the tents should be better. Fair point.

A couple specifically recommended it for families with kids and couples. Air cooler, plug point, floor lamp, comfy bed — plus a clean toilet and a dipping pool for the little ones. They were happy with it.

One reviewer who summed it up well just said: peaceful, relaxing, great staff, good breakfast, excellent coffee, clean bathrooms. Fantastic overall. Simple as that.

The value question does come up. At least two reviewers felt the price was slightly high relative to what you get — especially given the tent quality inconsistency. But most still recommended it, which suggests it's more of a
