Glamping at Xscape Tambun, Ipoh — Comfort Camping or Just Overpriced Tents?

The Vibe

This is not a traditional campsite. You're not pitching a tent here — you're checking into one. Glamping at Xscape Tambun is a proper glamping setup inside Sunway City Ipoh, where your accommodation is a furnished tent with air conditioning, a fan, real bedding, towels, slippers, and even a hair dryer. Think hotel-adjacent, but surrounded by trees and limestone hills instead of a lobby.

The setting is genuinely nice. Big trees shade the area throughout the day, the pathways are paved and walkable, and there's a bird sanctuary behind the site — mornings here are something else, with birds going crazy before the rest of Tambun wakes up. There's also a river at the back where monitor lizards hang around. You're still in Tambun town, so at night you'll pick up some ambient traffic noise from the main road — nothing disruptive, just the rhythm of an active neighbourhood nearby.

The crowd here tends to be families, couples, and first-timers who want to say they went "camping" without actually roughing it. Low season is wonderfully quiet — some guests report only three tents occupied on their visit. On school holidays and long weekends though, expect it to fill up fast, so book ahead if you're planning a peak-season trip. Activities like e-biking, caving, and flying fox are available nearby.

Getting There

The address is Persiaran Lagun, Sunway City Ipoh, 31150 Ipoh, Perak — inside the Sunway City Tambun development, same area as Lost World of Tambun. From Ipoh city centre, head towards Tambun and follow signs for Sunway City. Plug the Google Maps CID link into your phone and it'll take you right there. The road in is well-paved — no 4WD needed, no drama. Parking should be manageable given it's within a resort complex.

What to Expect

This is glamping, full stop. If you show up expecting a wild nature experience, you'll be disappointed. But if you're bringing someone who's never camped before, or if you want the kids to experience something outdoorsy without losing your mind over logistics — this works. The tents are spacious, well-maintained, and each has a private outdoor sitting area. The surrounding greenery is real and the trees provide solid shade.

Nights are reasonably comfortable with the air conditioning doing its job. Keep the tent flap zipped after dark and during the evening — it keeps the mosquitoes out. The mini stove outside each tent with basic cookware lets you do simple cooking; bring your own portable stove if you want to run multiple dishes at once.

Toilets

Shared and located outside the tent — so you're stepping out at night to use it. Bring a headlamp or torch for night trips. The shower water pressure is gentle, so factor in a bit extra time if you're hoping for a long hot spray. A portable towel hook is a smart packing addition for the shower area.

Cooking Setup

Mini stove provided outside the tent along with basic bowls and cutlery. Functional for simple cooking. No proper BBQ infrastructure — multiple guests flagged this as a gap worth fixing.

Pool

There's one on site. The morning birdwatching walk behind the site is a wonderful alternative if you're looking for a peaceful outdoor activity.

Activities

E-biking, caving, and flying fox are available nearby. Reviewers noted these are pricey. The walking paths around the site are paved and good for a morning stroll.

What Campers Are Saying

One first-time glamper said the tent felt genuinely cozy and relaxing — air conditioning, hair dryer, all the little amenities made it feel more like a retreat than a campsite. She'd go back. Another guest booked three tents for a group trip and was happy with the cleanliness and comfort across the board. The scenery got a thumbs up all round.

A family who visited during low season had one of those quietly good trips — just three tents occupied, very peaceful. They loved the mornings most, with birds active behind the site from early on. They did note the road noise at night is real, and suggested the owner seriously invest in a proper shared BBQ setup because the potential for a great evening hang is clearly there.

The mosquito situation when you open the tent at night was flagged by more than one guest — a good reminder to keep the flap zipped during evening hours unless you want insect company. Bring insect repellent and keep food sealed to avoid attracting local wildlife.

TAHAN Tip

The AC handles the heat fine, but if you're sitting outside in the evening — which is genuinely the best part of staying here — the insects are aggressive. Don't leave the tent door open when the lights are on inside, or you'll be sharing your bed with half the local bug population. Come prepared with repellent and keep food sealed. Also, skip the pool if it looks murky when you arrive — the morning birdwatching walk behind the site is a much better way to spend that time anyway.
