Rock Garden Camping Resort Gopeng — River, ATV, and a Pool That Actually Delivers
The Vibe
Gopeng has been quietly stacking up nature resorts over the last few years, and Rock Garden is one of the older ones in the area. It's not a raw campsite where you pitch your own tent and rough it — this is more of a nature resort with chalets, rooms, a pool, and activities like ATV rides. Think family getaway, team building, maybe a bachelorette group that wants nature without sacrificing too much comfort.
The river here is the main draw. It's rocky, clear, and runs through the property with decent flow. On one side you've got the pool, on the other you've got jungle. Next door is Himalaya Camp, which has a café and a colourful slide — so the whole strip along this road has a bit of a nature resort cluster feel. Crowded on weekends, probably fine on weekdays.
Just to set expectations right — this is a resort-style stay with rooms and chalets, not a bring-your-own-tent campsite. If you're looking to pitch a tent, this might not be the right fit. But if you want a proper room near the river with activities thrown in, you'll enjoy it here.
Getting There
The address is Jalan Kampung Pintu Padang, 31600 Gopeng, Perak. From the Gopeng exit off the North-South Highway (Plus), it's about a 10–15 minute drive inland. Follow the road towards Kampar or use Google Maps — the pin is available and it'll guide you in.
The access road is shared with ATV tracks, so don't be surprised if a convoy of ATVs rolls past you on the way in. The road gets narrow towards the end — Rock Garden is at the tail end of the stretch. Parking is available but limited, especially on weekends. Come early or carpool if you can.
What to Expect
This place is built for families and groups. The river is shallow enough in places for kids to wade around, and the rocky riverbed gives it that classic Perak jungle river feel. Current can run medium to high depending on rainfall, so keep an eye on the kids if you're letting them play in the water.
The pool is well-maintained from what people are saying — clear water, good size. The Black Dome accommodation option comes with a private pool shared between two rooms, which is a nice touch for those who want a bit more exclusivity. There's also a small stall on-site for lunch and dinner, so you don't have to go far if you don't want to.
The ATV rides through the jungle are a major highlight — over an hour of riding through the jungle according to some guests. Great for groups and families with older kids. Just make sure you sort out your activity bookings directly with them and confirm what's included. A few guests had issues with promised photos from the ATV session not being delivered, so manage expectations on that front.
It can get hot here during the day — the jungle gives some shade by the river but the rooms and common areas can warm up. Bring a fan or check if the room has aircon. Nights are generally more comfortable.

Toilets & Bathrooms
No water heater. For the coloured chalet with 5 queen beds, there's only 1 shared toilet — tight if you've got a full house. The Black Dome toilet is private but located outside the room. Clean enough, just don't expect hotel standards.
Pool
Big enough for the kids to swim laps. Well-maintained. The shared private pool at the Black Dome is a bonus if you book that accommodation.
River
Clear, rocky, and flowing. Current varies from medium to high — check conditions before letting young kids go in unsupervised. The slide nearby costs extra but most guests say it's worth it.
Food
Breakfast is included for some room packages — served 8am to 10am. Don't sleep in. There's also a small stall for lunch and dinner. Nothing fancy but fills the job. Himalaya Camp next door has a café too.
WiFi
Available at the open dining hall only. Connection is spotty — 50/50 whether it'll work. Don't count on it for anything important.
Parking
Limited. Fills up fast on weekends. Carpool or arrive early.
ATV
Available as an activity. Over an hour of riding through the jungle. Great fun. Book in advance and confirm what's included (photos, route, etc.) before you pay.
What Campers Are Saying
One group who stayed in the Black Dome said the private pool was a proper highlight — big enough for the kids to swim freely, and the private kitchen with gas stove made it feel like a proper little jungle retreat. They loved the river too, describing it as shallow enough to explore but full of character with all the rocks. The slide was a hit, worth the extra charge.
A family who did the ATV ride said it was over an hour through the jungle and easily the best part of the trip. Full of excitement, especially for kids who'd never done it before. That said, another guest mentioned that the guide promised to send photos from the ATV session but went radio silent after. A week later, still no photos and no reply to calls or messages. So if photos matter to you, sort that out before you leave the site.
The river, scenery, and overall nature setting gets consistent praise. Even reviewers who had gripes about the facilities said they genuinely loved the environment. The coloured chalet is a bit overpriced for what you get — RM350 a night for simple breakfast and a basic room with one shared bathroom for up to 6 pax is on the steep side. A few guests felt the value wasn't quite there compared to similar places elsewhere.
Check-in counter is a bit disorganised. Not a dealbreaker but mentally prepare for a slightly chaotic arrival, especially on busy weekends.
TAHAN Tip
Book the Black Dome if you can stretch the budget — the private kitchen and pool make a real difference. But if you're going with the standard rooms, bring your own towels. One reviewer mentioned only getting 2 towels for a room sleeping 7. Also, arrive before noon on weekends if you want decent parking. The ATV guys tend to book up fast — call ahead to confirm your slot, not just when you arrive.
