Jahang Eco Camp, Gopeng — The Hidden Riverside Gem You Probably Haven't Heard Of

The Vibe
Jahang Eco Camp is tucked away in Kampung Jahang along Sungai Kampar in Gopeng, Perak. It's the kind of place where you pull up, take a breath, and immediately feel like the week's stress just dissolved. Calm, shaded, right next to a flowing river. Not a party spot. Not a weekend makan-makan hangout. This is a proper chill-out camp.
The crowd here tends to be families and people who actually want to rest — 3D2N type of campers, not the pack-in-pack-out crew. The owner is friendly and clearly takes pride in keeping things neat and well-maintained. When a campsite owner genuinely cares, you can feel it the moment you set foot on the grounds. This is one of those places.
Gopeng is already well known for its outdoor scene — white water rafting, jungle trekking, the works. Jahang Eco Camp sits nicely in that ecosystem but offers something quieter. River in front of you, kampung air around you, no rush. If you're burnt out and just need to disconnect for a couple of nights, this might be it.

Getting There
The address is Sungai Kampar, Kampung Jahang, 31600 Gopeng, Perak. From the North-South Highway, exit at Gopeng (Exit 137). Once you're in Gopeng town, head towards Kampung Jahang — you can search "Jahang Eco Camp" directly on Google Maps using this link: https://maps.google.com/?cid=9000264899225527048
Gopeng is only about 20–25 minutes south of Ipoh, so it's very accessible. The road into the kampung is manageable — no 4WD needed based on what reviewers have said. Just take it slow once you're off the main road and follow the signage. If you get lost, call ahead: 012-202 4626. The owner is friendly, they'll sort you out.

What to Expect
The campsite is organised and well thought out. Each lot is outlined using small rocks, which might sound like a minor detail but it actually matters a lot — when it rains (and it will rain), your groundsheet stays clean and you're not dealing with muddy chaos. Someone actually planned this place properly.
The river runs right in front of the campsite. You can cast a line from your lot, which is honestly a rare thing. The water moves — one reviewer called it fast-flowing — so it's not a calm wading spot, but it's beautiful to look at and great for fishing. Kids will probably want to get close, so keep an eye on them especially after rain when levels can rise.
This is a good fit for beginners and families. The amenities are solid, the lots are clearly defined, and nothing feels DIY or risky. More experienced campers might find it a bit too managed, but if you want comfort with nature — this hits the spot.

Facilities
Toilets & Bathrooms
Well-managed and comfortable, according to multiple reviewers. Not just "okay for camping" — actually comfortable. That's rare. Bring your own essentials still, but don't expect a horror show.
Electricity
Each lot has its own plug point. Yes, really. You can charge your phone without guilt. Bring your extension cord if you have multiple devices.
Surau
There's a surau on site for Muslim campers. Solat tak perlu risau.
Fishing Pond
There's a fishing pond on site — not catch and release though, so factor in the fees if you plan to use it. You can also just cast at the riverside for free.
River Access
Direct river access right in front of the campsite lots. Fast-flowing water, great for fishing and scenery.

What Campers Are Saying
One regular camper called it one of her favourite sites in Malaysia — calm, clean, complete facilities, and the owner actually makes you feel welcome. She said she keeps coming back. When someone says that, you listen.
Another guy did a full 3D2N stay and said it was genuinely healing. No exaggeration in his review — just someone who came, rested, and left feeling recharged. He highlighted the river view, the well-managed toilets, the plug point per lot, the surau, and the neat rocky lot boundaries. That's a solid checklist ticked off in one camp.
A few others were shorter with their reviews — "very nice", "top notch" — but the fishing pond kept coming up. Reviewers were genuinely impressed that a campsite bothered to set one up. One dad specifically mentioned that the river current is fast, which was probably his way of saying watch the kids near the water.
Overall, the reviews are consistently positive. No horror stories, no complaints about cleanliness or the owner being MIA. That kind of consistency tells you more than five-star ratings alone.

TAHAN Tip
Book early if you're coming on a weekend — the numbered lots fill up and the rock-bordered pitches mean you can't just squeeze in wherever. Call the owner directly at 012-202 4626 to confirm your lot. Also, if it's been raining heavily upstream, the Sungai Kampar current picks up fast. Great to look at, but stay off the bank edge. Set your tent a bit further back from the river just to be safe.
