TWCampstay Kuala Terengganu — Cheap Beachside Camping with a Pirate Vibe
The Vibe
TWCampstay is a beachside campsite right outside Kuala Terengganu town, sitting along Pantai Tok Jembal. The moment you arrive, you'll notice the place has a very unique character — driftwood, repurposed decor, lanterns strung around the compound. Honestly it looks like something out of a Pirates of the Caribbean set, in the best possible way. Some might find it a bit cluttered, others will think it's charming. Fair warning though — go in with the right expectations and you'll have a great time.
This is very much a budget camping spot. The owner, Abang Lang, runs the place with genuine warmth and a lot of heart. The sea waves have battered this site before — even swept away the previous toilet block during monsoon — but he rebuilt and kept going. That kind of stubbornness deserves respect. The crowd here tends to be families, budget travellers, road trippers doing the east coast, and even motorhome folk. It's not a luxury glamping setup. It's raw, coastal, and real.
There are wave breakers along the shoreline so the view is partially blocked, but you'll still catch a beautiful sunrise over the South China Sea. The evening vibe with sea breeze and lantern lights? Memang sedap.

Getting There
The address is 4362, Jalan Pantai Tok Jembal, Kampung Kubang Badak, 21300 Kuala Terengganu. Plug it into Google Maps and it should take you right there — the campsite has a proper pin. From Kuala Terengganu town centre it's about a 10–15 minute drive up the coast road heading north toward Tok Jembal Beach. The road is normal tar road, no 4WD needed. You can drive right into the compound — no trekking involved.
If you're coming from KL via the East Coast Expressway (LPT), exit at Kuala Terengganu and head toward Pantai Tok Jembal. It's a straightforward drive once you're in town. Call the owner at 017-945 6905 if you can't locate it — he seems like the type who'll actually pick up and help you out.

What to Expect
Flat ground, right by the beach. You can drive in and park close to your tent — so this is great for car campers and road trippers who don't want to lug their gear far. It's close enough to KT town that you're not truly roughing it in the wilderness, but you've still got sea breeze, ocean sounds, and that coastal feel that the west coast just can't give you.
The site has a classic, lived-in feel. Think fishing village meets DIY beach camp. Abang Lang clearly puts effort into keeping it clean and managed despite the basic setup. Crowd-wise it's quiet enough on most days, though motorbike club events and group trips do happen here, so weekends can get livelier. Perfect for beginners, families, and anyone doing an east coast road trip who wants an affordable overnight stop that isn't a hotel. Hardcore jungle campers — this one's not for you.

Facilities
Toilets & Showers
They exist, and the owner rebuilt them after the monsoon took out the previous block — so credit where it's due. That said, the current toilet is cramped, the door situation isn't great for privacy, and the tap is awkwardly positioned high up. If you're the type who needs a proper bathroom experience, manage your expectations. But hey, you're camping lah.
Electricity
Power points are available on site. Big plus for motorhome users — no need to run a noisy generator. Charge your devices, run a fan, sort yourself out.
Kitchen & Fridge
According to one reviewer, there's basic kitchen access and a fridge on site. Helpful for longer stays or if you're bringing food that needs to stay cold.
Parking
You can drive right up to the campsite. Car camping friendly — no separate parking lot drama.
Fishing
Fishing facilities are available on site. You're right by the sea, so this makes sense. Bring your rod.

What Campers Are Saying
John, who gave it 4 stars in what he called his "most controversial review", put it best — it's a place of pros and cons, but the owner's attitude tips the scale. The wave breakers do cut the sea view, but you'll still catch sunrise. The toilet is awkward. The decor is eclectic. But Abang Lang's positive energy makes up for a lot of it.

A family who stayed here loved how peaceful it was despite being close to the city. They highlighted the clean compound, the ocean breeze, and how family-friendly the whole setup is. Not what you'd expect from a budget beach camp.
AINI LILI brought a motorhome for six people and said it was "super comfy" — the power points were a game changer, and she mentioned the shower was actually a nice experience with nature all around. She's already planning to come back every time she visits Terengganu. That says something.
Usman highlighted the pricing — he straight up said the price is so cheap you might not believe it. He compared it to an island getaway vibe for a fraction of the cost. His group was there for an RXZ motorbike club activity, so it clearly works for group events too.
Marshall, who did a car trip along the east coast, said the campsite is well managed, clean, and recommended it for road trippers. He gave particular kudos to Abang Lang's creativity with the decor and his hospitality.

TAHAN Tip
Avoid coming during or right after monsoon season (November to March). The sea can get rough and this site has already lost one toilet block to the waves — you don't want to be caught in bad weather here. The best time is April to October when the east coast is calm and the sunrise views are actually worth waking up early for. Set up your tent facing the sea for maximum morning payoff.
