Kemensah Valley is one of those spots that surprises you. You're in Ampang — barely 20 minutes from the city — and suddenly you're surrounded by jungle, river sounds, and actual fresh air. It doesn't feel like you're still in the Klang Valley. That's the thing about this place. First-timers always say the same thing: didn't expect it to be this big, didn't expect it to be this chill.

This is a managed campsite with chalets, a shop, and team building packages. It's not a wild camp — the operator runs the show and can organise activities, meals, even school trips. The crowd here is mostly families, friend groups on weekend lepak trips, and school or corporate groups doing team building. Weekdays are noticeably quieter, which is when this place really shines. Weekends can get busier depending on whether any group bookings are in.

The river is the star here. It's nearby, accessible, and people come specifically to mandi-manda in it. Nothing crazy — it's described as comel (cute), not a massive cascading waterfall — but perfectly good for a splash session after setting up camp.

Getting There

The address is Jalan Taman Zooview, Kampung Kemensah, 68000 Ampang, Selangor. The name gives it away — this area is near Zoo Negara. If you're coming from KL, head towards Ampang and follow signs toward Zoo Negara. From there, go further into Kampung Kemensah. The road into the kampung is narrow in parts but manageable in a normal car — no 4WD needed. Just take it slow. Plug the number into Google Maps (012-327 0679) or search the Google Maps listing directly to get the most accurate pin.

What to Expect

Flat, spacious campsite surrounded by jungle. No elevation, no dramatic terrain — just a good-sized open area where you can comfortably fit around 10 tents if you plan it well. The jungle edges the site, the river is close by, and parking is just outside the campsite entrance. It's genuinely accessible for beginners, families with young kids, and anyone who doesn't want to hike in with full gear on their back.

The operator is hands-on. They offer team building activities, and if you book meals, reviewers say the food is actually good — not afterthought canteen food. All activities are outdoor-based, so rain is a genuine issue. There's no big covered hall for everyone to retreat to if a storm rolls in. Keep that in mind if you're planning a group event.

This is a great spot for families, school groups, and friend circles who want a chill outdoor experience without going too deep into the wilderness. Hardcore campers looking for isolation or rugged terrain, this probably isn't your scene — but that's not what this place is trying to be.

One first-timer who went on a whim said he genuinely didn't expect a place this big and varied to be sitting right next to where he lives. That reaction — surprise that something this good exists so close to the city — comes up again and again from Kemensah visitors.

A group that went on a weekday for picnic and waterfall mandi said the vibes were very chill, not crowded at all, and they'd go back. They described the waterfall as comel — not massive, but fun enough that it was a highlight of the trip.

A family who camped there said the kids loved it and so did the adults. Their only gripe? The toilet situation. One toilet and one bathroom for the whole site (or possibly doubled if the other side has one too) is manageable for a small family but tight for bigger groups. They still called it a nice place and perfect for families overall.

A school group that ran a two-day, one-night camp there had a solid experience — good basic facilities, friendly knowledgeable staff, great meals, and genuine outdoor activities. The one thing they noted was the lack of a covered indoor space when it rains. Outdoor-only activities mean you're at the mercy of the weather.

Go on a weekday if you can. Seriously. Kemensah on a weekday is a different experience — quieter, more space to yourself, and the river feels like it's all yours. Weekends, especially long weekends, attract bigger group bookings and the limited toilet situation becomes much more noticeable.
