Cahaya Warisan Campground @ Sungai Gabai — A Simple Riverside Camp Near KL

The Vibe

Sungai Gabai is one of those spots that KL folks have known about for ages. The waterfall is the main draw — people come to mandi-manda, lepak by the river, that kind of thing. Cahaya Warisan Campground sits right in that same area, giving you a proper reason to stay overnight instead of just day-tripping like everyone else.

It's not a big place. Spaces are limited and it's first-come-first-served, so you're not booking months in advance or anything like that. Just show up, find a spot, set up. There's a small fee to camp — nothing steep, and from what people say, it goes toward keeping the toilets and common areas clean. Fair enough lah.

The crowd here is mostly families and casual campers from the Klang Valley. It's not the kind of place hardcore overlanders or jungle trekkers are heading to. Think more: parents bringing their kids for their first camping trip, friend groups who want to chill by the river on a long weekend. That's the energy here.

Getting There

The address is Air Terjun Sungai Gabai, off Jalan Sungai Lui, 43100 Hulu Langat, Selangor. From KL, you're heading toward Cheras and then up into Hulu Langat. Follow the signs for Sungai Gabai Waterfall — most Waze and Google Maps users should be fine following the pin directly.

The road into the area is manageable in a normal car. Nothing that requires 4WD. Just be aware that it gets busy on weekends — the road narrows at certain points and parking can get chaotic when the day-trippers come in. If you're camping, try to arrive early before the weekend crowd descends.

What to Expect

It's a riverside campsite attached to a popular recreational waterfall spot. That tells you most of what you need to know. During the day, especially on weekends and public holidays, the area is busy — families, picnickers, the works. If you want peaceful and quiet, come on a weekday.

The campsite itself is simple. Don't expect manicured grounds or glamping setups. It's flat-ish terrain near the river, you pitch your tent, you enjoy the sound of water at night. For the price and proximity to KL, it does the job. Beginners and families will be comfortable here. Solo campers or people wanting a more wild experience might find it a bit too tame and crowded.

Because spaces are limited and there's no reservation system, you run the risk of showing up and finding it full. Weekend trips need early arrival — seriously, don't rock up at 3pm on a Saturday and expect a good spot.

Facilities

Toilets

Public toilets are available on site. The camping fee partly goes toward toilet cleaning, so they should be maintained to a basic standard. Bring your own essentials just in case.

Fees

There's an entry or camping fee — kept affordable. Pay it, don't grumble. It's what keeps the place from turning into a dumpsite.

What Campers Are Saying

Reviews are thin on this one — it's not a place that gets a ton of online buzz — but what's there paints a consistent picture. One camper, Ms Uyus, put it well: good area, limited spaces, first-come-first-served. She didn't complain about the fee — said it was affordable and fair given it covers cleaning services. That's about as honest a summary as you'll get.

The general sentiment from people who've been to the Sungai Gabai area is that it's a solid, no-frills escape close to KL. The waterfall is the star of the show. Camping here means you get the waterfall experience without having to rush home same-day — you can wake up to the river sounds, have a morning swim, and head back after breakfast. That alone makes it worthwhile for a lot of people.

The limited space is the consistent concern. This isn't a campsite where you can casually show up with a big group and expect to all camp together. If you're planning a group trip, get there early or risk your group being split up — or worse, turned away.

TAHAN Tip

Arrive Friday evening if you're planning a weekend camp. The day-trippers flood in Saturday morning and the place gets noisy fast. Getting there the night before means you secure a good spot by the river, set up in peace, and you're already settled in by the time the crowds arrive. By Sunday morning, most of them are gone and you have the place almost to yourself again.
