Hammocks By The River — The Riverside Glamping Spot in Hulu Langat That Actually Delivers

The Vibe

Hulu Langat is one of those places that Selangor folks keep going back to — close enough for a last-minute getaway but far enough to actually feel like you've escaped. Hammocks By The River sits right along a shallow, pretty river, and the name basically tells you everything. Hammocks. River. That's the move here.

This place caters to both glampers and campers who bring their own tent. So whether you want to sleep on a proper mattress in a proper setup, or pitch your own tapak and rough it slightly — both options exist here. The crowd tends to be families, couples, and friend groups looking for a relaxed weekend. It's not a hardcore jungle trek kind of place. It's more like: reach the site, set up or check in, go wade in the river, eat, chill, sleep well, repeat.

Dog-friendly too, which is becoming rarer to find. If you've got a furry travel buddy, this one's a solid pick. The river is shallow enough that even small dogs can have their moment. Very wholesome energy overall.

Getting There

The address is Lot 617, Jalan Sungai Makau, Batu 14 Hulu Langat — plug that into Google Maps and it'll get you there. The good news: the road to the site is now properly paved. One reviewer specifically mentioned this after returning for a second trip, so it sounds like it used to be a bumpy affair. No 4WD needed. Normal cars should be fine.

Batu 14 Hulu Langat is your landmark. From KL you're looking at roughly an hour depending on traffic. If you're coming from Kajang or Cheras, it's even closer. Call ahead if you're unsure — the number is 011-2810 8190.

What to Expect

The site is well-maintained and clean — multiple reviewers across different trips said the same thing, so this isn't a fluke. The vegetation is lush, there are pretty plants and trees around, and the whole place has that shaded, green, kampung-tepi-sungai feel to it.

The river is the main draw. Shallow, clear-ish, beautiful in the morning light. Perfect for kids, dogs, or anyone who just wants to sit with their feet in the water and do absolutely nothing productive. It's not a raging river, which is actually a plus — you're not going to feel anxious about safety.

Crowd-wise, weekends will have more people but it doesn't seem to get chaotic. One reviewer had a quiet Sunday corner all to himself. Weekdays would obviously be more peaceful if you can swing it. This place suits beginners, families, and anyone who wants nature without suffering. Hardcore bushcraft types might find it a bit tame.

Facilities

Toilets

In good working condition based on reviews. Bright enough at night to walk to alone — one reviewer specifically called this out, which tells me the lighting is actually decent. Not glamorous, but functional.

Bathrooms

One reviewer flagged the bathrooms as needing improvement. Not terrible, but could be better. Manage expectations accordingly.

Washing Area

There's a dedicated washing area for cleaning up after meals. Handy and properly set up.

Mini Kedai

There's a small kedai runcit on site that sells basic necessities. Super convenient if you forgot something — which let's be honest, we all do.

Glamping Tents

Mattresses are comfortable and the setup is proper enough to get a solid night's sleep. Not roughing it at all if you go the glamping route.

Own Tent Camping

You can pitch your own tent here. Price per tapak is reportedly very affordable.

What Campers Are Saying

A repeat visitor — someone who'd already been once and came back — said the road is now properly paved and the site is just as clean and well-managed as before. That kind of consistency matters. A lot of places are great on the first visit and start sliding after that. This one seems to be holding its standard.

One camper brought her dog and said the shallow river was perfect for both her and her furry companion. She also mentioned feeling safe walking to the toilet alone at night because of the lighting. Small detail, but honestly, that matters especially if you're camping solo or with kids.

A foreign visitor said this was one of the most memorable camping experiences he's ever had — and he mentioned the staff specifically. Friendly, helpful, made people feel welcome. Good staff can completely change the feel of a campsite, and this one seems to get that right.

One reviewer did note some trash left behind from previous campers and flagged the bathrooms as needing work. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing. The cleanliness of the campsite itself seems well-managed — it's more about encouraging campers to clean up after themselves, which is honestly a universal camping problem.

The glamping guests were consistently impressed — comfortable mattresses, complete facilities, stunning river views in the morning. One group said they were so satisfied they'd be coming back. When multiple unrelated people say the same thing, you know it's not just one lucky visit.

TAHAN Tip

If you're camping on a weekend, aim to arrive early — like before noon. The riverside spots with the best shade and river access fill up fast. Don't be the person who shows up at 4pm and ends up setting up your tent in the least ideal corner.
