The Vibe

Ecotree Camp @ Semungkis sits deep in the Hutan Simpan along Sungai Semungkis in Hulu Langat — and the moment you pull in, you can feel the difference. Tall trees, running water, and zero phone signal. It's the kind of place that forces you to actually be present.

It's classified as semi wild camping — meaning there's some structure here, but don't show up expecting resort facilities. Generator runs at night, Starlink WiFi kicks in from 7pm to 7am, and that's about as connected as you'll get. During the day? Complete blackout from the outside world. Honestly, for a lot of people, that's the whole point of coming.

The crowd here leans toward families with kids, couples wanting a proper nature reset, and the odd bikepacker passing through. It's not a party campsite. When occupancy is low, the place is wonderfully quiet — just river sounds and jungle noise. That said, it can get busy on weekends, so midweek visits hit different.

Getting There

The address is Kompartmen 75 & 76, Hutan Simpan, Jalan Sungai Semungkis, 43100 Hulu Langat, Selangor. It's the deepest campsite along the Sungai Semungkis stretch, so expect to drive through a few other campsites before reaching this one. Key landmark is the Sg Semungkis road — follow it all the way in.

The road in is off-road and bumpy. Not crazy 4WD territory, but your Myvi is going to feel every rock. A higher clearance vehicle is more comfortable. A group who bikepacked in from Sungai Tekala, Semenyih made it without issue, so it's doable — just don't rush it. Give yourself extra time, especially if you're arriving after dark.

What to Expect

Think lush rainforest on all sides, a clean-flowing river right at your doorstep, and camping lots that the staff actually prep for you. One reviewer mentioned that the staff swept their lot clear of dead leaves before they even set up — that kind of attentiveness at a semi wild site is rare. The river is calm enough for kids, with visible shrimps and fish swimming around. It's safe for water play, just be aware that conditions change with rain upstream.

Zero telco coverage during the day is real — most networks don't reach here. Digi and Celcom users apparently catch a faint signal sometimes, but don't count on it. If you need to contact someone in an emergency, the staff are your best bet. Come with a plan and come with cash — there's apparently an ice cream uncle around too, which is honestly the best surprise at any campsite.

There's also a jungle survival class for kids if slots are available — check with the management before arriving. And one of the staff, Farid (a King Scout, no less), was highlighted by multiple visitors as genuinely helpful and knowledgeable. Good people running the place makes a huge difference.

Toilets

Eight toilet booths with gravel flooring. Functional but basic. No toilet paper provided, so bring your own. Drainage is a work in progress — some lots nearby had broken sink drainage pipes at the time of recent visits, causing water to pool and attract flies. Hopefully that's been fixed by now.

Water

Sinks available near some lots. River water is accessible but bring a foldable plastic bucket — it helps a lot with collection and general camp use.

Showers

No shower cubicles. Cold water only. You're bathing camp-style here.

Electricity & Lighting

Generator-powered. Lights come on at night but the site can get quite dark between lots. Bring your own camp light — don't assume the generator coverage reaches your specific spot. Useful here because you can charge it during the generator hours and use it freely through the night.

WiFi

Starlink WiFi available from 7pm to 7am only. During the day, assume no internet whatsoever.
