Betong Riverside Campsite — Small Site, Big Charm?
The Vibe
Betong Riverside is a managed campsite in Hulu Langat, Selangor — and when they say small, they mean it. Nine lots. That's it. So you're not going to show up here and fight for space with a hundred other campers. It's the kind of place where you actually know your neighbours by the end of night one.
Opened sometime around December 2023, it's still relatively new and the CO (campsite operator) clearly takes pride in keeping things tidy. The river runs alongside the site — nothing dramatic, more of a gentle stream than a raging torrent — but it sets the mood. Nights here are cool enough that you won't need a fan, which is a bonus most Selangor campsites can't promise. This one suits families, couples, or small groups looking for a chill weekend getaway without going too far from KL.
Fair warning though — the lots are narrow. If you're planning to pitch a big dome plus a flysheet, mind your neighbour's space. And the ground has rocks mixed in with the sand, so pegging your tent is going to take a bit of patience and maybe some extra-long pegs.
Getting There
The campsite is in Hulu Langat, Selangor — postcode 43100, near a mineral water source area (Sumber Air Mineral). Plug the Google Maps CID link or search "Betong Riverside Campsite" on Maps and it should pull up. From KL, Hulu Langat is roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic — take the Cheras-Kajang Highway and follow signs toward Hulu Langat or Semenyih. The final stretch into the campsite is the kind of road that's fine in a normal car but go slow — uneven road, and if it's been raining recently, watch your tyres. No 4WD needed, but don't show up in a low-slung sports car either. For specific directions, call ahead on 019-550 5970 — the CO is reportedly helpful and responsive.
What to Expect
Nine lots means this place fills up fast on weekends. Book early or go on a weekday — one reviewer literally had the whole camp to themselves on a weeknight, which sounds absolutely syok. The riverside setting is pleasant but the river itself isn't the main draw — it's more of a background feature than a swimming hole. Don't come expecting Sungai Chilling-level water fun.
The campsite is well-maintained for its age, clean overall, and has a friendly operator vibe. But it's tight. Lot borders aren't super clear, which can cause confusion if you're trying to figure out where your space ends and the next person's begins. Flies were an issue for at least one group — bring a fly trap or repellent just in case. The genset noise at night is another thing — it kicks in at 7PM for the electricity supply, and some people find it annoying. It cuts off at 7AM. If you're a light sleeper, pack earplugs.
Best suited for: beginner campers, families, couples. Not really for the hardcore jungle-trekker type — this is a managed site with proper facilities, not a wild camp.

Toilets
Four in total — 2 for men, 2 for women. Clean and well-maintained. Each comes with a rain shower. During peak times, water pressure can get pretty slow, so try to shower early before everyone else wakes up.
Water
Each lot has its own sink with tap water. Convenient for washing up. Pressure drops during busy periods but it's there.
Electricity
Each lot has an individual plug point. Power runs from 7PM to 7AM via generator. Genset is functional but noisy — it's audible at night, especially if your lot is near it.
Parking
One car per lot seems to be the deal. Extra cars have to park by the main roadside, which at least one reviewer flagged as genuinely dangerous. If you're coming in a convoy, check with the CO before you show up.
What Campers Are Saying
One regular camper who's clearly done the rounds said this is a repeat-worthy site — loves lots 2 to 5 specifically for the positioning. The CO gets consistent praise for being entertaining and approachable. Definitely adds to the whole experience when the operator actually gives a damn.
A family who came during a busier period had mixed feelings. Facilities are solid, but the flies were bad enough that they had to set up a fly trap just to eat in peace. The river bank also had some rubbish, which is disappointing for a fairly new site. And the whole extra-car-parking-on-the-roadside situation genuinely annoyed them — paying extra only to park somewhere unsafe doesn't sit right.
A weekday camper who practically had the place to himself for the first night described it as a proper retreat. Cool nights, clean site, well-run — he came back the second night with a bigger group and still had a good time. His take: come on weekdays if you can swing it.
The one consistent gripe across a few reviews is the lot borders being unclear. Would be a simple fix for the CO — just mark the tapak edges more visibly and a lot of the crowding tension goes away. Someone also mentioned the river isn't at its best right now, so temper expectations there.
TAHAN Tip
Book lots 2 to 5 — they're the most popular for a reason, likely better positioning relative to the river and away from the genset noise. Grab them early because with only nine lots, this site sells out faster than you'd think, especially on long weekends.
