H&N Campsite Port Dickson — Beach Camping or a Mess Worth Avoiding?

H&N Campsite in Port Dickson has beach access and potential — but poor maintenance, bad toilets, and safety concerns make it a tough sell. Mike's honest review.

The Vibe

Look, Port Dickson isn't Perhentian. We all know that. But there's something nice about being able to do beach camping without driving 6 hours north. H&N Campsite sits right on Jalan Pantai at Batu 4, facing the Strait of Malacca — so yes, you get actual beach access, sea breeze, and that salty air feeling. On paper, it sounds decent enough for a quick weekend getaway.

In reality? It's a mixed bag, and I'd lean more towards the bad side of mixed. The location has real potential — private-ish, got beach access, families can fish and hunt crabs with the kids. But the management just hasn't kept up with basic maintenance. Like, at all. Toilets are in bad shape, trash is everywhere, and random people wander into the campsite at night. That last bit alone would make me uncomfortable, especially if I'm camping with family.

This place seems to attract first-timers who just want a cheap beach camping experience near KL or Seremban. If you manage your expectations hard enough, maybe you'll be okay. But if you're used to well-run campsites, you might end up doing what at least one reviewer did — packing up and moving to another campsite the next morning.

Getting There

The address is LOT 1341, Jalan Pantai, Batu 4, 71000 Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. From KL, take the PLUS highway south towards Seremban, then head towards Port Dickson via Route 86. Once you're on the main PD coastal road (Jalan Pantai), just follow the kilometer markers — you're looking for Batu 4. The campsite is right off the road facing the sea.

One thing to flag: the campsite is right next to the main road. That means road noise, motorbikes, and weekend traffic are very much part of your camping soundtrack. Don't expect jungle silence here. It's a flat coastal area so no 4WD needed — standard car gets you in fine. You can call 013-301 1688 to check availability before heading down.

What to Expect

You're setting up your tent by the beach. The Strait of Malacca is right there. Kids can fish, look for crabs, collect shells along the shoreline. That part's genuinely fun, especially for families bringing young ones for their first beach camping trip.

But beyond the beach access, things get rough quickly. There's no designated tent plot system — you just plonk your tent wherever. Which means your neighbour might be a stranger setting up 2 feet from you. On top of that, outsiders who aren't campers freely walk into the grounds. One reviewer mentioned a random guy came up to her late at night asking about the camp. That's not okay.

Weekend nights are noisy — loud music from the main road, motorbikes revving through the campsite area. One reviewer specifically said a random dude was revving his motorbike in the middle of the campsite at night. Wind can also get strong here being an open coastal site, so make sure your tent pegs are solid and you've got guy lines sorted.

This place is suited for budget beach campers who are okay roughing it — and I mean really roughing it. Not for families who need decent toilets or light sleepers who need quiet. Definitely not for solo campers who want to feel safe.

Facilities

Toilets

Bad. Multiple reviewers called this out hard. Blocked toilets, no locks on doors, doors with holes, missing roofs, non-functional lights in most cubicles. At one point, out of several units, only 1 shower and 1 toilet were actually usable. Cold water, just a pipe. Bring your own tissue and manage your expectations massively.

Electricity

Power points are available at some spots — that's one of the few positives mentioned. But some areas had spoiled extension cords and broken lights, and nobody bothered to fix them. Don't rely on it.

Rubbish Disposal

Tong sampah are there but they're left open and uncovered. Crows raid them every morning and scatter trash everywhere. It's a real problem and nobody from management seems to be doing anything about it.

Parking

Parking lot is available on site. No major complaints about this from reviewers.

Prayer Room

One reviewer suggested the management add a mini surau. There isn't one currently.

What Campers Are Saying

A family doing their first-ever beach camping trip said the kids had a blast — fishing, crab hunting, collecting shells. For them, the beach access made it worthwhile. But even they came away suggesting the owner seriously needs to upgrade the toilets, washing area, and prayer room. The potential is there, they said. Just not the execution.

One couple gave it 2 stars and checked out early. Their list of problems: blocked toilets with no roof, crows making a mess of uncovered rubbish bins every morning, a stranger approaching them at their tent at night, broken lights in their area, and a spoiled extension cord. They ended up moving to another campsite the next day. Paid the same price as other nearby sites and got a much worse experience.

Another camper gave it 3 stars and said it's a "beautiful campsite next to beach and water" but garbage everywhere ruined it. They said they'd give it another chance — which tells you the location really does have something going for it.

A 1-star reviewer was blunt: the campsite is not properly maintained. Of all the toilets available, only 1 shower room and 1 toilet actually worked. No light in most units. The shower room couldn't even lock. And no designated plots — strangers just set up right next to you. Oh, and someone was revving a motorbike in the middle of the campsite at night. Tak ada langsung kawalan.

The clearest pattern across all reviews: good location, completely let down by zero maintenance and poor management. The beach is real. Everything else needs serious work.

TAHAN Tip

If you do end up here, set up your tent as close to the sea as possible — away from the main road side. You'll catch the sea breeze, get more distance from the traffic noise, and feel more like you're actually beach camping. Avoid the end lots near the road — that's where the noise and random strangers tend to cluster. And bring a padlock for your tent zip. Just sayin'.
