Tok Gindo Campsite, Hulu Langat — A Riverside Gem Still Finding Its Feet

The Vibe

Tok Gindo is one of those campsite names you don't hear thrown around yet — and honestly, that's kind of the point. It's tucked away in Kampung Orang Asli Kuala Pomsom, deep in Hulu Langat, and the whole setup has that fresh-out-of-the-box energy. One of the reviewers who visited in June 2024 was told the site was barely a month old at the time. Everything looked new, clean, and properly organised. It's a managed riverside campsite with numbered lots, a camp map, electricity, and gondola rentals — not a wild roughing-it kind of place, but it's got real nature going for it.

The crowd here skews towards families and groups looking for a chilled riverside weekend — barbeque, feet in the river, kids splashing around. The river level is described as shallow enough for kids but not quite deep enough for adults who want a proper swim. On peak weekends and holidays, it does get packed, and one camper noted the river water started to smell a bit when too many people are around. Go off-peak if you want the better version of this place.

The address is Batu 22 Kampung Orang Asli Kuala Pomsom, Kampung Lepok, 43100 Hulu Langat, Selangor. You can call them at 013-364 9484 or navigate using this Google Maps link. Multiple reviewers flagged that signage in the area is not great — the place is tricky to find. Don't rely purely on your phone navigation. Save the contact and call ahead if you're lost. The road in isn't described as needing 4WD, but one camper did note the car park can get quite muddy after rain, so just keep that in mind if you're driving something low.

What to Expect

There are about 15 numbered lots. Most of them — roughly lots TG 01 to TG 11 — are under tree shade, which is great for afternoon heat. Lots TG 12 to TG 15 are out in the open with no canopy cover, so pick accordingly. The ground is covered in coarse gravel (batu kasaran, the rough 3/4" kind), and this is probably the most complained-about thing by campers. It's sharp on bare feet and not exactly comfortable for kids running around. Bring a proper ground sheet and a thicker mat to put inside your tent — that combo makes a real difference.

The campsite also has gondola shelters for rent — spacious enough for 8–10 people, great for groups who want a central hangout spot for makan and BBQ. The site is well-lit at night, which reviewers appreciated, and it's away from the main road so it doesn't feel like a public park. For families with younger kids or campers who want basic comforts without going full glamping, this is solid value for the price.

Toilets

Two toilets on site. Clean, but small. The lock on at least one of them wasn't great — one camper specifically called it out. Don't expect a hotel restroom. Functional is the right word here.

Showers

Two shower cubicles available. No water heater — it's cold water only. Fine for a hot lowland campsite, but some campers wished there was a proper wudu' area that's women-friendly too.

Electricity

Available, but on a schedule. Powered by generator — typically 9am–2pm and 7pm–2am. One camper on a later visit mentioned 24-hour electrical points, so things may have improved since the early days. Worth confirming when you book. The power can trip due to surges, so don't rely on it for anything critical.

Water

Tap water on site is described as clean. Basins and dishwashing area available too.

Parking

Parking is right at the campsite entrance — convenient. Can get muddy after rain. Fills up on peak weekends, so arrive early if you're going during a holiday.

Rubbish Disposal

A large trash bin at the car park area for campers to use upon departure. Good practice — some other sites don't even have this.

What Campers Are Saying

A camper who visited during peak season gave it 3 stars mostly because of the crowds — not the campsite itself. His take: the location is at a slightly higher point along the river, so the water quality is usually better than downstream spots. But jam-packed public holidays change that equation. He also echoed what others said about needing clearer signboards to find the place. Solid feedback for a new site to act on.

Tucker, who camped here during rainy weather, still gave it 5 stars. He highlighted how well-lit and spacious the site felt, the availability of basins and dishwashing stations, and the big rubbish bin at the car park. His one real complaint? The CO mentioned quiet hours (R&R time) in the booking message, but not everyone followed through. The usual Malaysian campsite problem.

EATravels appreciated how private and away-from-the-public the location felt. She pointed out the gazebos are a bit close together, but if you book more than one, you get proper space. Her request: more toilets and a women-friendly wudu' area. Fair ask.

Shamuddin, who stayed 2D1N, gave the most detailed review and was clearly an experienced camper. He liked the cleanliness and the tree-shaded lots, but the rough gravel underfoot was his biggest gripe. His practical advice — bring a thicker groundsheet and a thick mat — is honestly the most useful tip for anyone booking here right now.

TAHAN Tip

That rough gravel ground is the real villain at Tok Gindo. Your tent floor takes a beating, and without proper cushioning underneath, you're going to feel every stone by morning.
