The draw is the river. Sungai Congkak has always been a family favourite — shallow, clean-ish, and calm enough for kids to splash around without you panicking every five minutes. Raudhah Mutqan sits right on the riverbank, so you get that lullaby-of-running-water situation going on all night. Cold nights, jungle sounds, river breeze. On paper, it sounds really nice.

The reality is a bit more mixed. The place has genuine charm — the owner is friendly, the natural surroundings are legit beautiful — but the chalets themselves need serious TLC. Some guests loved it, some really didn't. It depends a lot on which chalet you get and what your expectations are going in.

Getting There

Head towards Hulu Langat. The address is Lot 1091, Batu 20 1/2, Jalan Haji Mokhtar, Kampung Padang, 43100 Hulu Langat. Drop that into Google Maps or use the CID link and it'll take you right there.

Jalan Haji Mokhtar is the main road that cuts through the Sungai Congkak recreational area. The road is tarmac but it narrows in spots — nothing you can't handle in a regular car. No 4WD needed. From Kajang, you're looking at roughly 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. If you're coming from KL, add another 20 minutes.

Landmark to watch for: once you pass the main Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest entrance, keep going. Raudhah Mutqan is further up along the same road. Call them at 013-588 2697 if you overshoot — it happens.

What to Expect

This is a riverside chalet spot, not a campsite. Think basic wooden chalets, river access, jungle ambience. The river is shallow and gentle — perfect for young kids. The surrounding greenery is thick and genuinely beautiful. Nighttime gets cold, which is a nice surprise for a lowland spot.

Crowd-wise, it draws mostly local families, especially on weekends. It's not a party spot. The vibe is kampung-style relaxation — makan, lepak, main air. If you're after hardcore adventure or proper glamping comforts, this isn't it. But for a simple family getaway close to KL where the kids can just run wild by a river, it scratches that itch.

The big caveat: chalet quality varies. Some guests had a fine time. Others found the rooms dusty, smelly, with torn mats and windows that won't close properly. Go in with realistic expectations. If you're the type who's bothered by a bit of roughness, this might frustrate you. If you can handle basic conditions for the sake of the surroundings, you'll probably enjoy it.

A family that visited said it's well-suited for bringing the whole family — especially with small kids who want to play in the river. The water is shallow enough that you don't have to hover over them constantly, which is a huge plus for parents.

On the flip side, at least two reviewers flagged serious maintenance issues — holes in the floor, torn mats, dusty wooden walls, and windows that couldn't close properly. One said it straight: the surrounding area wasn't clean either. At RM200 per chalet for a river-facing room, some guests felt that price point needed better upkeep to justify it.

The daytime heat also came up. Without proper ventilation or AC, the chalets can get stuffy during the day. Once the sun goes down and the river breeze picks up, it's a different story — cool and pleasant.

The owner's friendliness was mentioned across multiple reviews. Whatever the shortcomings of the physical space, people seemed to genuinely like the guy running the place.

If you're booking, call ahead and specifically ask for a river-facing chalet in better condition — mention Chalet No. 7 as a reference point. Don't just take whatever's available. Also, bring your own cooking gear, your own bedding or at least a travel sheet if you're particular, and don't forget toiletries. The chalet gives you walls and a roof over your head, but the rest is really on you. Weekdays are going to be much quieter than weekends — the Sungai Congkak area gets busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings especially during school holidays.
