The Vibe

Let's get this straight from the start — LiLLA Hilltop Retreat is not a pitch-your-own-tent kind of place. This is a managed glamping retreat up in the Janda Baik hills, and they set up the tents for you. Proper styled tents, already done up. So if you were hoping to DIY your campsite setup on a budget, this probably isn't it. But if you're looking for a comfortable nature escape that doesn't require you to wrestle with tent poles? You're going to like it here.

The setting is genuinely beautiful — elevated, cool air, surrounded by greenery. Janda Baik does that to you. It's only about an hour from KL but once you're up there, the city feels far away. LiLLA specifically sits on a hilltop, so the views are decent and the breeze comes through properly. The kind of place you'd bring your partner or the whole family for a weekend reset.

The crowd here tends to be urban folks looking for something low-effort but high on atmosphere. Couples, families, friend groups who want the camping aesthetic without roughing it too much. Think cozy tents, friendly staff, and good food on site. Very different energy from a jungle campsite, but that's exactly the point.

Getting There

The address is Lot, Lorong Seri Dinar, Kampung Janda Baik, 28750 Bentong, Pahang. Drop the coordinates into Waze or Google Maps and it'll take you there without drama — the main road up to Janda Baik from Gombak is well-paved and clearly signposted.

From KL, take the LPT1 (Karak Highway) direction Bentong, exit at Gombak and follow signs toward Janda Baik. Total drive from KL is roughly 45–60 minutes depending on traffic. The road into Kampung Janda Baik is fine for normal cars — no 4WD needed. Just watch your speed on the winding stretch heading uphill. Once you're in the kampung area, keep an eye on smaller side roads — the final turn into LiLLA can be a little easy to miss if you're not paying attention.

What to Expect

This is a resort-style glamping experience. Don't come expecting a raw jungle setup. The tents are pre-pitched, cleaned and styled — reviewers consistently mention how cozy and well-maintained the tents are. Think beds inside the tents, proper bedding, the whole deal.

There are guided activities on site too, which makes this great for groups or families who want more than just sitting around. Ecam Raziey mentioned the activities were fun and well-organised — so it's not just a sleeping spot, there's actual programming if you want it.

It's beginner-friendly to the max. Families with kids will do well here. Couples wanting a romantic escape — also solid. If you're a hardcore camper looking for a wilderness challenge, this isn't your spot. But there's no shame in enjoying a comfortable night in the hills with good hospitality and a proper meal.

Noise level should be relatively chill since it's a managed retreat — not a free-for-all public campsite. Expect to share the space with other guests but in a structured way.

Facilities

Tents

Pre-pitched, clean, and well set up. Multiple reviewers called them cozy. Not basic camping tents — these are styled glamping setups.

Food

Food is available on site and reportedly delicious. Ecam specifically called it out. Don't expect to have to cook your own meals — that's part of the experience here.

Staff and Hospitality

This is where LiLLA genuinely shines. Mr. Thana and his team get mentioned by name across multiple reviews. Room upgrades offered without asking. Helpful, warm, and attentive throughout. Not the kind of service you expect to find at a hillside camp.

Activities

Guided activities are available on site. Described as fun and well-organised. Good option if you're bringing a group or kids who need more than just chilling.

Parking

Based on the location being a managed retreat, parking should be available on site — check with them when booking to confirm arrangement.

What Campers Are Saying

Safuan's group was blown away by the hospitality. They weren't expecting to get a room upgrade, and when it happened, it set the tone for the whole stay. He said the check-in was seamless and the atmosphere was peaceful. That's two things that usually go wrong at smaller camps — LiLLA managed both.

Fadhilah came for the camping experience and left genuinely impressed by how the tents were set up. Her words were "perfect balance of nature and comfort" — which honestly is the best way to describe a well-run glamping retreat. She's already planning to come back.

Hafizah specifically called out both Mr. Thana and Mr. Thugen for going above and beyond. At most camps you're lucky if staff even acknowledges you. Here, multiple guests are naming the team by name because the service left an actual impression.

Ecam's review was simple — the food is good, the activities are fun, and the whole experience is unforgettable. Short review but says a lot. When someone can't find anything to complain about, that's usually a sign the place is doing something right.

Mohamad Syahfiril's group also got a surprise room upgrade, and he noted how clean and beautifully maintained everything was. Two separate guests mentioning unsolicited upgrades tells you this team has a culture of going the extra mile — not just following a checklist.

TAHAN Tip

Even though LiLLA sets up the tents for you, Janda Baik nights can get genuinely cool — especially if it rains. Bring a light layer for sleeping and don't assume the hilltop breeze at night is going to feel the same as the afternoon. If the retreat provides bedding, confirm it beforehand — just so you're not caught cold at 2am with nothing to layer up with. For extra comfort on those cooler nights, the TAHAN HexLink Sleeping Bag is rated down to 18°C and converts into a blanket — perfect for Janda Baik temperatures without being overkill.

Also — book in advance. A place with this level of service and this location fills up fast, especially on weekends and public holidays. Don't assume walk-ins are welcome. Call them at 018-264 2288 before you make the drive up.

If you're coming with the family and want to make a full weekend of it, the TAHAN FlexLite Chair is worth throwing in the car boot — proper back support for sitting around the camp area, and it packs up to almost nothing.
