The Vibe

This is one of those campsites that looks absolutely stunning on paper — elevated, misty mornings, sea of clouds, cool air, lush surroundings. And honestly? The environment delivers. When you arrive at Rainforest Park @ Genting Sempah and the weather plays along, it feels like you've stumbled onto something genuinely special. The kind of place where you wake up at 6am, unzip your tent, and just stand there quietly watching the clouds roll through the valley below.

But — and this is a big but — it sits right next to the Genting Highlands uphill road. The one where sports car and motorbike guys love to go bawak laju after midnight. So yeah, if you're a light sleeper, that's something you need to go in knowing. On weekends, throw in the possibility of big running events nearby, loud campers partying on the lower platform, and the occasional dog drama — it can get pretty chaotic. Come on a weekday and you'll get a completely different experience. Calmer, quieter, and you'll actually be able to hear the cicadas.

The campsite has designated lots, power outlets at some sites, a garden-like feel with lots of plants around, and geese walking around like they own the place. It attracts a mix of car campers, couples, and families — though the lower tier lots near the slope aren't ideal for families with young kids. There are also platform areas with great views and shade, though getting gear up to them requires navigating some uneven steps.

Getting There

The address is Lot 9048, Genting Sempah, 28750 Bentong, Pahang. Plug it into Waze or Google Maps and it'll take you there reliably. The campsite is along the Karak Highway corridor heading towards Bentong, near the Genting Sempah tunnel area — if you've driven to Genting before, you know roughly where this is.

One thing to note: the entrance road was recently being rebuilt and rerouted at time of some reviews. A camper reported having to park outside and getting picked up by the camp operator. Worth calling ahead (016-921 1328) to check the current access situation before you head up, especially if you're driving a low car loaded with gear.

No 4WD needed. Regular cars handle it fine. Parking is available next to the camp lots for most sites, which is a big plus for car campers.

What to Expect

The lots are generously sized and each comes with a durable mesh-type ground sheet already laid out — good drainage too, since the place gets rain and reviewers noted no water puddles forming. The gravel ground means most standard pegs will struggle; bring 30cm pegs if you can. Some soft spots in the ground too, so worth probing before you commit to a spot.

Lot-wise, G1–G10 are on the upper tier with the better views. G11 onwards are newer, lower-tier lots on a slope — more suited for adults than families. Platform lots give you amazing shade and views but require some effort hauling gear up uneven steps and walking further to the toilet. Pick based on what matters most to you.

Temperature at night can drop to around 20°C, especially when it rains — though some reviewers hit scorching nights with no jacket needed at all. The weather up here is unpredictable like that. Daytime can get warm if your site doesn't have shade. Overall, this is a comfortable intermediate campsite — not hardcore jungle, but also not glamping. Good for families, couples, and intermediate campers who want cool weather without a serious trek.

For overnight stays here, a good sleeping setup matters. The gravel-with-mesh surface is decent but firm, so the TAHAN Panthera Inflatable Sleeping Pad is worth throwing in — 10cm thick with a built-in foot pump and integrated pillow, so you're not sleeping on a rock even when the ground has zero give.

Toilets

Separated by gender, recently upgraded, and brightly lit at night. Reviewers generally found them clean. The squatting toilet design is a bit awkward according to one reviewer — you'll know it when you see it. Overall, better than average for a campsite.

Water Heater

Most bathroom cubicles have water heaters. A rare luxury at a campsite. Worth appreciating especially on cold, rainy nights.

Water Supply

Reported as reliable on weekdays. One reviewer noted running water issues at the sinks during a weekend with a big event on — so it can get stretched when there's a crowd. The staff were actively checking and managing it though.

Electricity

Power outlets available at certain lots. Confirm when booking which lots have them. This is a solid bonus — charge your devices, run a fan, skip the powerbank drama.

Parking

Cars can park right next to most camp lots. Great for car campers hauling a lot of gear. Confirm access road status before arriving — there were rerouting works happening at the entrance recently.

Lighting

The bathroom area is well-lit at night, but the campsite lots themselves can be dark. Bring a torch or headlamp. Don't assume the power outlet will solve your lighting needs.

What Campers Are Saying

One camper who stayed for a 2D1N solo weekday trip booked lot G9 and said it was spacious — too spacious in some ways, with soft ground in patches. She recommended 30cm pegs and said the G1–G10 lots are the ones to go for if views are your priority. She'd go back, but only on weekdays. The dogs barking through the night was the toughest part for her.

A group who camped in June for two nights loved the mountain views, the garden-like setting, and having car access right next to their lots. They gave a thumbs up for the mesh ground sheets handling the rain without any waterlogging. Their main gripe? The engine revving noise from sports cars and bikes after midnight. Still, they were already planning to return in October.

One reviewer had genuinely mixed feelings. The sea of clouds in the morning was a 10/10. But her weekend stay coincided with a large running event starting nearby — and by evening, the campsite turned into a full-on party zone with drunken singing until the early hours. She said the only peace came at 6am when everything fell silent right before sunrise. Her advice: weekdays only if you want any real quiet, and pray hard if you're coming on weekends.

Another camper on Platform 11 for a 3D2N weekday stay had the opposite weather experience — warm and humid the whole time, slept without a jacket. Didn't get the sea of clouds. But the friendly camp owner, clean toilets, and spotting a rare breed of monkey made the trip memorable anyway. Highway noise was there but manageable.

TAHAN Tip

Book lot G1–G10 for the sea of clouds view, and go on a Tuesday or Wednesday — that's when this place is genuinely peaceful. Avoid weekends entirely unless you've confirmed there's no event happening near Tentent Café. The camp operator is responsive, so just call or WhatsApp them at 016-921 1328 before you book to check what's happening that weekend. Also, the campsite gets dark outside the bathroom area — the TAHAN Luminate Multifunction Lantern is what I'd bring here. Four lighting modes, rechargeable, and doubles as a powerbank — since some lots already have power outlets, you can top it up at the site itself.
