The 9 Best Pet-Friendly Campsites in Malaysia (2026)

Okay, real talk. I've been camping in Malaysia for more than 10 years, and I've personally reviewed every campsite on this blog. But the question dog owners ask more than anything else? "Mike, where can I bring my dog?" Finding a pet friendly campsite in Malaysia is still harder than it should be. Most places say no, some say maybe, and a few actually welcome your fur kid properly.

Malaysia is honestly one of the best countries in the region to camp in. Cool highlands in Pahang and Sabah, rivers everywhere, beaches in Johor and Penang, and most of it within a few hours' drive. This list is for dog owners, cat parents, families with kids and pets in the same car, and beginners who want a campsite Malaysia-style that's easy and chill. Some are glamping, some are proper pitch-your-own spots.

Important lah: pet rules change, and some campsites limit pets to certain lots or charge extra. Every pick below is here because of something I noted in my own review, but please WhatsApp or message the campsite before you bring your pet. Confirm first, then pack the kibble.

1. The Mountain Camp @ Mt. Kinabalu by PrimaStay

The Mountain Camp @ Mt. Kinabalu by PrimaStay, Sabah - campsite view

Managed glamping near Mesilau in Sabah, right at the base of Mount Kinabalu, with loft-style tented cabins and mountain views when you wake up. It earns the top spot on this list because, as I wrote in my review, it's pet-friendly, which is harder and harder to find these days, especially at a place this nice. Heads up: you're at altitude, so nights can drop to 14°C or lower when the clouds roll in, and it rains. For dogs that wilt in lowland heat, cool misty air like this is a treat, but bring something warm for them too.

Best for: Couples and families who want comfort with their pet · Standout: Cool, misty nights at the foot of Kinabalu

2. Tok Bak Campsite, Tanjong Malim

Tok Bak Campsite, Tanjong Malim, Perak - campsite view

Tucked past an Orang Asli kampung in Tanjong Malim, Perak, this one rewards people who don't mind getting their tyres dirty. There's a stream running right past the lots and that kind of quiet you can't get near the city. Why it's here: a group who brought their dogs said they were given the last lot along the river so their dogs wouldn't disturb other campers. That's a host who's thinking about everyone, so ask Tok Bak about lot placement when you message ahead.

Best for: Beginners and dog owners who like riverside camping · Standout: Stream right next to the lots, and the host himself

3. Little Habitat Campsite Bentong

Little Habitat Campsite Bentong, Pahang - campsite view

This place in Bentong, Pahang feels like lepak-ing at a friend's kampung house. Dogs are allowed in, and the crowd is mostly families with young kids and pet owners, so your fur kid isn't the odd one out. There's a pool, a stream, a pond to walk around and enough open ground to tire out both kids and dogs. They rent out pre-pitched tents, so no setup stress, just pull up and breathe.

Best for: Families with kids and dogs · Standout: Open ground, stream and pond for fur kids to roam

4. The Survivor (Broga Hill) Camp & Glamp

The Survivor (Broga Hill) Camp & Glamp, Selangor - campsite view

About 40 minutes from KL in Broga, Selangor, this is proper glamping: clean tents, air coolers, pools, archery and BBQ dinners prepared for you. It's pet-friendly, which earned it bonus points in my book. The air coolers matter here, because a tent with some cooling is a big deal when you've got a dog panting next to you in the afternoon. Kids get badminton, pickleball and hammocks, parents finally get to sit down.

Best for: KL families wanting a quick, comfy pet trip · Standout: Air-cooled tents close to the city

5. 406 Dusun Durian Balik Pulau

406 Dusun Durian Balik Pulau, Penang - campsite view

Camping on an actual working durian farm in Balik Pulau, Penang, with sea views and a waterfall trail nearby. It's pet-friendly too, which not every campsite around there can say, so if you're up north with your dog this is the one. The lady boss remembers your name and runs the place warmly. Bonus: fresh black thorn durian steps away, though maybe keep your dog's nose away from the thorny bits.

Best for: Pet owners in the northern region · Standout: Durian farm camping with sea views

6. IKAN Glampsite Bukit Tinggi

IKAN Glampsite Bukit Tinggi, Pahang - campsite view

Up in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, off the Karak Highway, the hills most KL folks zoom past on the way to Genting. Tents are fully furnished with beds, air conditioning and a fridge, plus a private toilet in some units. It's pet friendly too, which I called a nice touch, and that aircon is a real plus for keeping your pet comfortable. Guests rave about The Ridge for the better view.

Best for: Pet owners who want aircon and a proper bed · Standout: Air-conditioned tents in the hills

7. Back To Nature Camp, Mersing

Back To Nature Camp, Mersing, Johor - campsite view

A proper beachfront campsite inside Gunung Arong Recreational Forest in Mersing, Johor, where some lots literally face the sea. Dog owners are part of the regular crowd here, and pet-friendly campsites are rare enough in Malaysia that this one has built up a loyal following. Multiple reviewers have come back three times or more. Staff are hands-on and helpful when things go sideways, like arriving in the rain.

Best for: Dog owners and first-timers who want the beach · Standout: Unzip your tent, there's the ocean

8. Treegrow Camp, Cameron Highlands

Treegrow Camp, Cameron Highlands, Pahang - campsite view

Treegrow at Ringlet, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, is a well-run, car camping friendly site with cool air, misty mornings and clear stars at night. In my review I noted it's also good for dog owners, and highland air is way kinder to a furry dog than lowland heat. It sits next to working vegetable and corn farms, so you can buy sweetcorn and cherry tomatoes from the caretaker. Flies can show up in the day, but the caretaker hands out sticky traps if needed.

Best for: Car campers with dogs who want cool weather · Standout: Super clean, well-managed highland site

9. Rainbow Camp Serendah

Rainbow Camp Serendah, Selangor - campsite view

Glamping in Serendah, Selangor, with tents already set up with beds and decorations. It's pork-friendly AND pet-friendly, and it's the one on this list where a camper mentioned bringing their cat for a birthday celebration. Zone E sits next to a river and small waterfall, with sandy ground that's lovely to lepak on. In heavy rain expect flooded pathways and mud, so pack a towel for paws.

Best for: Cat owners and family celebrations · Standout: Zone E by the river and waterfall

What to Pack

Camping with a pet in Malaysian heat is a different game. Here's my checklist:

  • Shade, shade, shade. Midday sun in the lowlands is brutal for dogs. A covered area makes a huge difference. Something like the TAHAN Pavillion Shelter Tent works as an open canopy for shade by day and handles rain too.
  • Lots of water and a collapsible bowl. More than you think. Refill often.
  • Leash and a long tie-out line. Even at places where fur kids roam, keep control near other campers.
  • Old towels. For muddy paws after rain and wet dogs after the stream.
  • A light for night toilet walks. The TAHAN Luminate Multifunction Lantern is rechargeable and doubles as a powerbank.
  • Tick and flea protection, poop bags, their usual food. Don't switch food on a trip, trust me.
  • A warm layer if you're heading to Kinabalu or Cameron, for you and the dog.

FAQ

Do I need to tell the campsite I'm bringing my pet?

Yes, always. Pet rules change, and some sites limit pets to certain lots or charge extra. At Tok Bak, for example, a group with dogs was given the last lot along the river so the dogs wouldn't disturb other campers. Message the campsite before you go, every time.

Which pet friendly campsites in Malaysia are coolest for dogs?

The Mountain Camp @ Mt. Kinabalu in Sabah can drop to 14°C at night, and Treegrow Camp in Cameron Highlands has cool air and misty mornings. If you prefer lowland glamping, IKAN Glampsite has air-conditioned tents and The Survivor at Broga has air coolers.

Which of these campsites are good for beginners?

Tok Bak is great for beginners who want a taste of the outdoors without roughing it too hard. Back To Nature Camp draws plenty of first-timers. Little Habitat, The Survivor, IKAN and Rainbow Camp all have tents set up for you, so zero pitching stress.

Can I bring my cat camping in Malaysia?

Rainbow Camp Serendah is where I heard of someone bringing their cat for a birthday celebration. For any other site on this list, message them first and confirm before you bring a cat.
