The Vibe

Birdhill Beach sits along the quiet coastline of Tanjung Sedili in Johor — and if you haven't heard of this place, that's kind of the point. It's not Desaru. It's not packed with day-trippers and overpriced coconuts. It's a low-key beachfront campsite where the sea breeze hits you the moment you step out of your car and you immediately think, okay, good call coming here.

The crowd here skews toward families, friend groups doing a relaxed getaway, and Singaporeans looking for somewhere different to escape to over the weekend. It's not a hardcore camping spot — there are tents provided, cooking utensils ready, and staff on site. Think semi-glamping, minus the marble countertops. The whole thing is managed and booked via WhatsApp, which is very Malaysian, very functional.

Nights are warm and it can get stuffy — this is sea-level Johor, not Cameron Highlands. But the vibe more than makes up for it. Steamboat by the beach, sea view from your tent, sound of waves as you fall asleep. Not bad at all.

Getting There

The campsite is along Jalan Kampung Sedili Kecil, Tanjung Sedili — about an hour's drive from Aeon Tebrau in Johor Bahru. If you're coming from Singapore, that's roughly an hour plus after the causeway, depending on traffic.

Once you're on the road toward Sedili, just follow the GPS. The last stretch is narrow and slightly bumpy — drive slowly, don't rush it. Normal cars are fine. No 4WD needed.

Penting: do your grocery run before you arrive. The nearest proper shops are back in town. One reviewer mentioned stopping at Aeon Tebrau for groceries — that's solid advice. Once you're in Sedili territory, options dry up fast. When you exit the campsite and turn left, there's a stretch of makcik restaurants about a minute away. Dapoq Che Jaja and Beastlab Coffee were recommended by one camper. Worth checking out for a quick meal.

Also note — after a certain hour, the campsite gates are sealed. Cars can't enter or exit. Plan your arrivals and errands accordingly.

What to Expect

This is a managed campsite with tent rental packages. You're not pitching your own shelter here — they set it up for you. A family package for four gets you either two 2-person tents or one 4-person tent. The 4-person option is reportedly roomy enough for four adults, which is saying something.

The heart of the campsite is the dining area — that's where you'll be spending most of your time. Cooking utensils are provided and decent. Battery-powered lights in the common area are bright and long-lasting. But the tents themselves have no built-in lighting, so bring a lantern or a headlamp. Common dining area is well-lit with battery-powered lights. The tents themselves have no lights — bring your own.

Fans

Two mini tripod fans provided per tent. Manage your expectations — these are not KDK fans. Nights can be stuffy. Bring your own portable fan if you run hot.

Cooking Equipment

Good range of utensils and a flat pan and pot provided. Reviewers suggest bringing a grill pan and an extra stove if you want to cook efficiently, especially for group meals.

Available at the campsite. Gates are locked after a certain hour — no entry or exit after that.
