The Vibe

This one genuinely surprised me. Tg Jaga De Camphece is a seaside campsite tucked away in Kampung Kelewang Jatoh, Yan — one of those quiet coastal kampung spots in Kedah that most people from the Klang Valley would never think to look for. But the people who find it? They keep coming back.

The setting is right on the Straits of Malacca. You get sea breeze, the sound of waves, and — if your timing is right — some seriously good sunsets. It's not a wild jungle adventure. It's more of a slow-down, breathe-deep, watch-the-horizon kind of campsite. The kind that city folks need more than they realise. Very kampung in feel — and that's a good thing.

The owners, an uncle and aunty the regulars call CO uncle and CO aunty, are genuinely hands-on. They check in on you, they keep the place clean, and apparently they've even been known to sponsor charcoal and pass out mosquito lotion. That kind of hospitality is rare and you feel it the moment you arrive.

Getting There

The address is Q937+85, Kampung Kelewang Jatoh, 06900 Yan, Kedah. Yan is a small town about 40 minutes south of Alor Setar and roughly 30 minutes north of Sungai Petani. From the town of Yan itself, you'll follow roads into the kampung heading toward the coast.

Use Google Maps and search for "Tg Jaga De Camphece" or call ahead at 019-400 0876 — the owner picks up fast, so just call before you head in. The road into the kampung is accessible to regular cars and the owner has mentioned the site can even accommodate RVs, so the approach road shouldn't be a problem for most vehicles.

What to Expect

This is car camping right by the sea. The ground is sandy, which is actually good news — reviewers note that rain drains away quickly so you won't be sleeping in a puddle if it showers. The area is quiet and the owner intentionally limits the number of tent spots, so it doesn't get overrun even on weekends. You're not going to show up and find 50 tents crammed in.

There's even a trail nearby — one group hiked from the campsite up to Bukit Perangin early morning. So if you want a bit of activity mixed with your seaside chill, that option's there. Overall though, this place is best suited for families, beginners, or anyone who just wants to decompress. The facilities are well-maintained, the environment is calm, and the whole setup is beginner-friendly without being boring.

Facilities

Toilets

Clean and Muslim-friendly. Multiple reviewers specifically called this out — the owner clearly takes cleanliness seriously. No nasty surprises here.

Showers

Available on-site. Good to have especially after a salty beach session.

Water

Two natural spring water outlets on-site. Reviewers say guests can tap this for consumption at no cost. That's a nice bonus.

Electricity

Plug points are spread throughout the campsite. Charge your phone, run a fan — sorted.

Surau

There's a musolla on-site. Convenient for Muslim campers, especially for subuh by the sea.

Tables and Chairs

Provided. You're not eating off your lap here.

Chalet

Available for those who want a bit more privacy or shelter. Good option if you're camping with older family members or kids who aren't ready for full tent life.

Parking

Car camping is the setup here, so your vehicle stays close. No long hike from a distant lot.

What Campers Are Saying

One solo camper mentioned he stumbled onto this place because every other campsite he tried was closed on weekdays. He called up, the owner answered immediately, and when he arrived the site was clean and well-kept. He paid RM50 for a car camping spot and rated the whole experience 10/10 — not just for the campsite but because CO uncle and aunty kept checking in on him throughout his stay. That kind of personal care is genuinely hard to find.

A group of six who did their first-ever beach camping here said the sunset views were spectacular and the sound of waves completely drowned out any other noise. Pure healing vibes, as they put it. The owner sponsored charcoal and handed out mosquito lotion without being asked — nobody expected that. They left feeling like they'd camped at a friend's place, not a commercial site.

Another camper described it as a cosy seaside spot with a view of the Straits of Malacca — ideal for sunset watching. He pointed out that the sandy ground means rainwater seeps away fast, and that the owner deliberately limits tent numbers so it stays peaceful. He also noted the two natural spring water outlets, which you can use for free. He mentioned it's accessible for RVs too, so if you're doing van life or a large family setup, you're good.

One repeat visitor was already on his second trip when he left his review. He and his group turned it into a two-day thing — beach camping the first evening, then an early morning hike up Bukit Perangin from the campsite the next day. That combo sounds solid to me.

TAHAN Tip

Call ahead on 019-400 0876 before you go — not just to book, but to ask about current wave and tide conditions. This is a seaside site and tent placement matters. CO uncle will usually advise you where to pitch based on the weather that week. Don't just show up and wing it, especially if you're coming during monsoon months (October to January is rough on the northwest coast).
