The Vibe

Sun'Yea Camp sits along Jalan Lama in Bukit Tinggi, Bentong — that familiar stretch of Pahang hill country that's cooler than the city and close enough for a weekend escape from KL. On paper it sounds decent: capsule accommodation, tent platforms, hot showers, a kids' pool. The kind of place that tries to blend glamping comfort with proper camping.

In practice, the experience really depends on which phase you book and whether you manage your expectations going in. Phase 1 seems to be the more complete setup — reviewers who stayed there generally had a good time. Phase 2 is a different story, and we'll get into that. The crowd here skews towards families and casual campers rather than hardcore outdoor types. Think weekend getaway, not jungle adventure.

One thing to flag upfront: there are dogs living on site. Free-roaming ones. If you're not comfortable with that — or if you're bringing small kids who don't know how to behave around unfamiliar dogs — factor that in seriously before you book.

Getting There

Head towards Bukit Tinggi, Bentong in Pahang. The address is Jalan Lama, Batu 16, Bukit Tinggi — postcode 28750. If you're coming from KL, take the Karak Highway (E8) and exit towards Bentong or Bukit Tinggi. Jalan Lama is the older road running parallel to the highway in parts, so look out for signage once you're in the Bukit Tinggi area.

The campsite is close to the highway — like, very close. That's not a complaint about the road to get there, it's just the reality of the location. The access road itself should be fine for normal cars. No 4WD needed. If you're not sure, drop a pin from the Google Maps link or call ahead: 018-765 5003.

What to Expect

The site is compact — don't come expecting a sprawling jungle campsite with loads of space to roam. Tent platforms are available, which is actually a smart touch when it rains (and in Bentong, it will rain). The capsule accommodation is the highlight for many — modern, clean, surprisingly comfortable, with a decent night view.

The kids' swimming pool and a mini mart on site are genuinely useful if you're bringing the family. But the campsite is small enough that things feel cramped, especially the common cooking area. And the highway noise at night is real — multiple reviewers flagged it independently, so go in knowing that. This isn't a quiet forest retreat. It's more of a managed campsite with some glamping options, right off a busy road.

Best suited for: families with kids who want facilities, first-timers who want a structured setup, or couples who want to try the capsule experience. Not great for groups that need a lot of space, and probably not ideal if you're a light sleeper.

Facilities

Toilets

Phase 1 reviewers say the bathrooms are clean with proper flushing toilets. Phase 2 reviewers say toilets weren't being washed. So — depends which phase you're in. Confirm when you book.

Showers

Hot showers available. Phase 1 guests had no issues. Phase 2 guests had to complain before the water heater was even switched on. Again — phase matters.

Water

Phase 2 reported that only one washing area had running water. Not enough for the whole site. Phase 1 seems fine on this front.

Electricity

Plug points are available but reportedly insufficient — not enough sockets for everyone, especially in Phase 2.

Cooking

No dinner is included with the package — bring your own food or prepare on site. Portable gas stoves and basic tableware are provided. BBQ pits available to rent, though one reviewer had an issue with a group leaving the pit smoky and unattended all night.

Tent Platforms

Raised tent platforms are available. Good call for wet weather. Saves you from sleeping in a puddle when the Pahang rain comes down.

Swimming Pool

Kids' pool on site. Families seemed to appreciate this one.

Mini Mart

There's a mini mart on site. Handy if you forgot something.

Capsule Accommodation

The capsules are clean, cozy and spacious enough. Good views at night. The standout feature of this place, honestly.

What Campers Are Saying

The capsule experience gets genuine love. One guest called it one of the coolest stays she'd ever had — clean, modern, peaceful, with a beautiful night view. She'd go back without hesitation. And reading her review, you can tell she's not just saying it to be nice.

A few campers singled out the tent platforms as a genuinely good idea, especially when it rains. Solid thinking from the operators on that one. Hot showers and clean facilities in Phase 1 also got consistent thumbs up — reasonable price for what you get.

But then there are the dogs. Multiple reviewers mentioned them, and not in a good way. One guest watched a child nearly get bitten. Another described the dogs chewing through tent strings, sneaking into dome flysheets to steal snacks, and making noise around tents through the night. That's not a one-off incident — that's a management problem that hasn't been addressed.

The highway noise is the other consistent complaint. It's not the kind of thing you can tune out. Cars and lorries at night, right there. If you're a light sleeper, this will get to you.

Then there's Phase 2 — which honestly sounds like it shouldn't be open yet. One group booked it and arrived to find the common area half-done, a broken freezer, a dirty river with rubbish in it, insufficient plug points, and no indication from the owner that any of this was the case. They felt misled, and fair enough — if you're paying for a campsite, it should at least be finished.

TAHAN Tip

Book Phase 1 explicitly — don't assume. When you contact them at 018-765 5003, confirm in writing which phase your booking is under and what's included. Phase 2 is still being set up and the experience is not comparable. Also, if you're bringing kids or have a fear of dogs, ask directly about the current dog situation on site before you commit. It's a real enough issue that it deserves a straight answer before you show up.
