Look, this isn't a traditional campsite where you pitch your own tent on uneven ground and hope for the best. RUSTCAMPS is a glamping resort — proper rooms, jacuzzi, forest views, breakfast in a basket. It sits up in Genting Permai, which if you've never been, is the quieter, greener side of Genting — none of the casino chaos, just cool mountain air and trees everywhere.

The crowd here is mostly couples. Pairs who want to feel like they're in the jungle without actually roughing it. You get the forest, the mist, the sounds of nature — but you also get a real bed, hot shower (mostly — more on that later), and someone bringing your nasi lemak to your door in the morning. It's a proper escape, not a survival trip.

First impression when you arrive? Quiet. Genuinely quiet. The kind of quiet that makes you exhale without realising you were holding your breath. That's the Genting Highlands elevation doing its thing — cooler air, lower noise, less nonsense.

Getting There

The address is Lot 12184, Genting View Resort, Genting Permai, 69000 Genting Highlands, Pahang. Plug it into Waze or Google Maps — it'll take you up the Genting Permai route, which is separate from the main Genting Highlands road that goes to the casino resort.

From KL it's about 50 minutes, give or take traffic. One reviewer drove up at 11pm in the rain and made it fine, so the road is manageable at night — but still, be careful when it's wet. Mountain road, winding corners, you know the deal.

No 4WD needed. Normal car is fine. Just don't rush the corners.

What to Expect

You're on a hill, so the views are real. Forest on all sides, elevated position, and when the mist rolls in — which it does, this is Genting — it actually feels magical. The kind of scenery that makes you put your phone down. Almost.

Each unit feels private. The jacuzzi is outdoors, surrounded by trees, and multiple guests specifically called it out as a highlight. A private jacuzzi with forest views at this altitude? Yeah, that's a flex.

Cleanliness is consistently excellent across all reviews. The management clearly takes pride in keeping the place in good shape. One small thing — a couple of guests noticed a mild mouldy smell from the wooden flooring in some rooms, which makes sense given the humidity at that elevation. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing.

There's also a firecamp option — you get to sit around an actual campfire. For couples who want that warm, cosy nighttime vibe without building the fire yourself, that's a nice touch.

Served in a basket, individually packed. Nasi lemak ayam and fried beehoon with fried chicken. Simple, but reviewers genuinely loved it — like, repeatedly complimented it to each other during the meal. One small gripe: no spoon provided in room for hot drinks.

Wi-Fi

Available but weak. Mountain location, so don't expect strong signal. Bring a sim with data as backup, or just treat it as a digital detox.

Firecamp

Available as part of the experience. Adds a nice kampung-meets-glamping feel to the evening.

Parking

Available on site. No specific complaints raised by reviewers about parking.

What Campers Are Saying

A couple who booked last minute from KL — contacted via WhatsApp at 8pm, arrived at 11pm in the rain — said the whole process was smooth from first message to check-in. Staff member Mr. Yehril was waiting for them at the entrance despite the late hour and the rain. That kind of hospitality is hard to fake.

Another guest who stayed with a group mentioned that when one of their members couldn't make it due to a car accident, the front desk staff — Mr. Yelil Nelavan — actually stepped in to help prepare the BBQ ingredients. Above and beyond doesn't even cover it.

On the breakfast — one reviewer straight up said "it is so damn tasty" and she and her partner kept complimenting it to each other throughout the meal. For a basket delivery breakfast, that's high praise.

The forest views and private jacuzzi came up again and again. One guest called it a "perfect sanctuary" and gave it 10/10. Another specifically mentioned how peaceful the hill location felt — very refreshing compared to KL noise.

The one shared concern across a couple of reviews was the shower water temperature being unpredictable, and a faint mouldy smell from the wooden floor in some units. Both minor, both worth being aware of.

Book via WhatsApp directly — the team is responsive even late at night and they're flexible with check-in times if you communicate upfront. Don't assume late arrival means no room. Just ask. The staff here are the kind that actually try to make things work for you.

Also — pack something warm for the night. Genting Permai can drop quite a bit after midnight. The room might have aircon but the outdoor jacuzzi session at 11pm with mountain cold air around you is a different story.
