Lù Yīng Retreats, Bentong — Beautiful Spot, But Get the Full Picture First
The Vibe
Lù Yīng Retreats is a glamping-style retreat up in Bukit Tinggi, Bentong — think elevated tents, hill views, cool mountain air, and a host family (Jack and family) running the show. This is not a pitch-your-own-tent kind of place. You book accommodation — whether that's a tent unit or a villa — and they handle the setup. Meals, buggy service, board games in the common area, even a basketball court. Got a decent amount going on for a relatively new place.
The crowd here skews towards friend groups and families looking for a relaxed getaway with some creature comforts. People who want nature without roughing it too hard. The hill setting gives you that cool breeze, some jungle sounds at night, and according to at least one reviewer, the occasional hornbill sighting — which is a big deal. The host even did CNY fireworks for guests one year, which is the kind of personal touch that you don't get at most places.
That said — and I'll be straight with you here — the reviews are mixed. The place has real potential, but it's also clearly going through some growing pains. There have been complaints about food safety, maintenance issues, last-minute changes to packages, and some deforestation happening on-site that put a few people off. So go in with realistic expectations, and double-confirm everything before you book.

Getting There
Address is Kampung Bukit Tinggi, 28750 Bentong, Pahang. Drop "Lù Yīng Retreats" into Google Maps or use the CID link — it should pull up fine. Bentong is roughly an hour from KL via the KARAK Highway (E8). Once you're in Bentong town, it's another drive up towards the Bukit Tinggi area.
The road up to Bukit Tinggi is winding but manageable in a normal car. Nothing you need a 4WD for. Once you arrive, parking is available but note that during busy periods, only one car per tent site is the rule — though the host has been flexible with this when occupancy is low. Call ahead if you're coming in a convoy.

What to Expect
This is glamping, not camping. Your tent comes set up, your bed is inside, there's hot water in the shower. The elevation means it genuinely gets cool at night — bring a light jacket or sleeping bag just in case, especially if you're a cold sleeper. The extra beds provided are reportedly thin, so if you run cold, bring your own blanket.
During the day, the view from the hill is the main draw. You get that sweeping highland scenery, and on a clear day it's genuinely nice. There's a common area with board games, a basketball court, and what they describe as a pond — but don't expect a swimming pool. One reviewer was told to bring swimwear only to find a small, murky pond that wasn't really swimmable. That's a miscommunication that shouldn't happen.
The place is relatively new and still finding its footing operationally. Construction was still ongoing during at least one guest's stay, which affected the atmosphere. A fair number of trees have apparently been cleared for development too, which is a bittersweet thing to see when you're up there looking for the "green retreat" experience they promote.

Facilities
Accommodation
Tent units sleep up to 6 pax. Villa option also available (Hornbill Villa). Both are described as clean and cozy by most guests, though quality of extras like extra beds and outdoor lighting have drawn complaints.
Toilets & Shower
Hot water available — and apparently actually hot, which is a win. One reviewer flagged a plumbing issue where the hot and cold taps were reversed. Toilet maintenance has also been an issue in at least one unit — ants, loose toilet seat cover. Worth checking when you arrive.
Food & Meals
Meals are available (breakfast and dinner packages). The mookata dinner has gotten good feedback. Breakfast portions are generous and the seasoning on the chicken has been called out as genuinely delicious. But there was a serious food safety complaint — raw chicken served in a nasi lemak breakfast during one stay. The kitchen operator had also changed without prior notice to guests who had booked specific meal packages. Double-check what exactly is included when you book.
Common Area
Board games available. Basketball court on-site. Buggy service to help transport luggage around the property. Free welcome coffee on arrival.
Parking
Available at the site. One car per tent as a general rule, but flexible when occupancy is low. Confirm with them ahead of time if you're coming with multiple cars.
Swimming
There is no proper swimming pool. There's a small pond in the common area, but it's not clean enough to swim in. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise when booking.

What Campers Are Saying
The people who had a good time here really had a good time. One group of five friends who stayed in a 6-person tent said the cool weather and excellent service won them over completely. The buggy ride, the luggage assist, the welcome coffee — small things, but it added up. They'd go back.
A family celebrating their 10th camping experience chose Lù Yīng and called it their best yet. The host Jack and his family went out of their way — even putting on a CNY fireworks display for guests staying over that weekend. That kind of hospitality is rare and genuinely appreciated.
On the flip side, two separate reviewers gave 2-star ratings and their concerns overlap enough that you can't dismiss them. Both mentioned the last-minute change in kitchen operators without informing guests beforehand. Both mentioned the raw chicken breakfast. Both mentioned being told check-out was at 6pm, then being pressured to leave by noon. That's a communication and management issue, not a one-off bad day.
One reviewer also brought up something that stuck with me — arriving to find a large number of trees had been chopped down for ongoing development. In the same visit, they spotted a real hornbill sitting in one of the few remaining trees. Bittersweet is the right word for it.

The staff — across almost every review, positive or negative — are described as friendly. That counts for something. But friendly staff can't fix a raw chicken or a miscommunicated check-out time. Management needs to catch up to the hospitality that the ground team is already showing.

TAHAN Tip
Before you confirm your booking, WhatsApp them directly (019-980 8876) and ask specifically: who is running the kitchen right now, what exactly is being served for your package, and where the meals will be served — at your tent or in the common area. The change from in-villa dining to common area dining blindsided multiple guests. Get it in writing in the chat. Also, close your tent windows and doors once it gets dark and you switch on the lights — the insects up in Bukit Tinggi are real and they will find you.
