This is a simple, no-frills riverside campsite sitting at the foot of Gunung Panti in Kota Tinggi, Johor. It's the kind of place that doesn't try too hard — just a patch of nature next to a river, managed by a helpful host who actually cares that you have a decent time. If you're a Johorean looking for a quick escape without driving all the way up north, this one's worth bookmarking.

The crowd here tends to be nature lovers and families who want something relaxed. Not the glamping crowd, not hardcore trekkers either. It's somewhere in between — people who want real trees, real river sounds, and don't mind a few creepy crawlies in exchange for that. And yes, the creepy crawlies are very real. Overall vibe: laid-back, green, and genuinely pleasant if you go in with the right expectations. Don't expect resort-style anything. Do expect a proper kampung nature feel.

Getting There

The campsite is along Jalan Lombong, Bandar Kota Tinggi — that's in the town area itself, so it's not some deep jungle drive. From Kota Tinggi town centre, it's a fairly straightforward route. If you're coming from JB, take the Kota Tinggi highway and head into town. Once you're near Bandar Kota Tinggi, look for Jalan Lombong and follow it through. The address is in the Gunung Panti foothills area, so you'll start seeing more trees as you get close.

Road condition seems fine based on what people are saying — no mention of needing 4WD or rough tracks. Normal cars should be okay. That said, parking is limited, so if you're coming on a weekend, get there early or you'll be doing a longer walk from wherever you manage to squeeze your car in. What to Expect

Riverside camping with a forest backdrop. The setting is genuinely nice — river beside you, trees overhead, fresh air. It has that proper alam semulajadi feel that you can't get at the more commercialised spots. The host is around and helpful, which makes a real difference when something goes sideways.

For the type of camper this suits — I'd say beginners to intermediate. Families would be comfortable here too, especially if the kids are the type who like splashing in rivers and exploring. It's not a challenging terrain. You're not hiking in. You pitch your tent, settle in, and enjoy being by the water.

One thing to flag: ants. This place has ants. Lots of them. Semut kecil yang gigit tu — the tiny ones that seem to get into everything. Multiple reviewers flagged this, so it's not a one-off. If you're the type who loses sleep over insects, this might not be your campsite. But if you're okay with nature being nature, it's manageable. Bring ant repellent, keep food sealed, and you'll be fine.

Toilets

Shower Room

Shower rooms are available on site. Shared facilities, but they exist — that's more than some campsites in Malaysia offer.

Basin

Washing basin is provided. Useful for cleaning up after cooking or rinsing off muddy shoes.

Parking

Limited. Gets full fast on weekends. Come early, or be ready to park further away.

Tent Rental

You can rent a tent on site for RM40 if you don't bring your own. Tent plot rental is RM30.

Keep all food in sealed containers or hanging off a cord — don't leave anything open on the ground overnight. The river location is beautiful, but semut kecil don't care about your Instagram moment. Come prepared and you'll enjoy the place properly.
