The Vibe

Right, first thing first — overnight camping is not allowed here at the moment. If you drove down from JB or Kota Tinggi expecting to pitch a tent and sleep under the stars, you're going to be disappointed. This is a day trip spot. Come for the water, stay for a few hours, go home. That said — don't write it off. Some reviewers have mentioned overnight rates so it's possible things change, but based on what we know right now, plan for a day trip only.

What you're getting is a spot deep inside a private plantation near Gunung Panti Recreational Forest. You take a one-way road through the estate, and it feels a bit like you're driving into the middle of nowhere — which honestly adds to the charm. Once you get there, it opens up to a forested area with a man-made pool fed by mountain water, big trees for shade, and a pretty chill vibe overall. Not a waterfall in the classic sense, more like a jeram — a rocky stream pool. The water is cold and comes from the mountain. On a sunny day, it's syok gila.

The crowd is mostly families and day-trippers from Kota Tinggi and JB. It's not a known name yet, so on weekdays you might have the whole place to yourself. Weekends are busier but still manageable compared to spots like Air Terjun Kota Tinggi which draws massive crowds. This one flies under the radar — for now.

Getting There

The address puts you at Gunung Panti Recreational Forest, about 15 minutes from Kota Tinggi town. From JB, it's roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Once you turn off the main road, you're going into a plantation estate on a one-way road. Lowered cars — jangan cuba. The road is uneven and rough. A standard sedan with decent ground clearance should be fine, but drive slowly. 4WD isn't required but you'll appreciate the ride height. A worker on site will help guide you once you're in the area. Free parking available at the entrance.

There are no proper signages along the way according to a few people who've been there, so use Google Maps and search for Jeram Sendayan Gunung Panti or use the coordinates. Once you see the plantation road, you're on the right track. Just follow it in.

What to Expect

This is a forested recreational spot — not a developed resort, not a glamping site. Stone chairs and tables are provided but limited. Bring a tikar or a small tent canopy if you want proper shade and comfort. The pool uses mountain water and is man-made but fed naturally, so the water quality is generally good. On peak days with a lot of people, expect the water to get a bit cloudy — that's just how it goes with any popular water spot.

The surroundings are peaceful — tall trees, forest sounds, mountain air. One reviewer described it as a hidden gem that's not crowded at all, and that's accurate for now. It's not a challenging hike-in type of spot. You park, you walk a bit, you're there. Families with young kids will be comfortable here. Elderly folks or anyone with mobility issues should note the terrain isn't wheelchair-friendly and facilities are basic.

This suits casual day-trippers, families, and anyone looking for a simple nature fix close to Kota Tinggi. Not the place for hardcore campers looking for a multi-night jungle experience.

Facilities

Toilets

Available on site. Basic but they exist, which is already a win for a place this tucked away.

Showers

Yes, and apparently they're big. One reviewer specifically highlighted the showers as clean and spacious. Good news for families who don't want to drive home soaking wet.

Surau

There's a surau on site. Muslim families, you're sorted.

Seating

Limited stone chairs and tables. Bring your own mat or portable chairs — you'll want them.

Parking

Free parking at the entrance. Staff on site to assist.

Food

No food stalls on site. Bring your own or stop at Gebbek Western, which is about 15 minutes away from the campsite.

What Campers Are Saying

One visitor who went on a spontaneous, zero-planning trip said the place surprised her — in a good way. She highlighted that since Air Terjun Kota Tinggi has been closed, JSGP fills that gap nicely for nature activities in the area. Entrance is cheap — RM3 for adults, RM2 for kids — paid via cash or QR. She also mentioned that even under the hot sun, it was cool and shady under the trees. The water is cold even though it's a man-made pool. Cleanliness gets a thumbs up.

The pakcik who runs the place comes up a lot. One reviewer said the owner is a friendly Malay uncle who genuinely takes care of the place. And here's an important safety note from the same reviewer — during heavy rain, pakcik won't let you in. That's not just him being annoying. Flash floods are real in areas like this, especially near Gunung Panti. Listen to him.

A separate reviewer who's been bringing his family here for two years — yes, two years, repeat customer — said this is hands down their best camping spot near JB. He mentioned the campsite ground is covered in chipping stones (batu kasaran), so bring a double ground sheet or an air mattress if you're sleeping on the ground. He also flagged that weekends are by reservation only, but weekdays are still walk-in. Camping rates cited by him were RM10 per adult per night and RM5 per kid — so overnight camping may be available depending on the date or arrangement. Worth calling ahead to check the current situation.

One more thing that came up — someone wished there were better signs for first-timers getting to the place. Fair point. Don't rely on landmarks. Use Google Maps from the start and you'll be fine.

TAHAN Tip

Call ahead before you go — the number is 012-767 2091. Overnight camping availability seems to vary, and weekends require reservations. The pakcik also turns people away during heavy rain. A quick call saves you a wasted 45-minute drive. Ask about current rates and availability while you're at it.
