The Vibe
Conway Cove sits right next to Kingfisher Campsite in Simpang Tenggaroh, along the Sedili coastline in Kota Tinggi. Same stretch, same view — basically neighbours. If Kingfisher is fully booked (and it does book out), Conway Cove is the one you want. Not a backup in a bad way. More like the other good option on the same road.
The setting is mangrove meets coastal calm. You're not at a white-sand beach resort. You're somewhere quieter — the kind of place where egrets land in the mangroves while you're still setting up your tent, and kingfishers dart past while you're making coffee. That's the vibe here. Low-key, nature-first, genuinely pretty. The sunrise gets mentioned by almost everyone who stays, and from what people are saying, it earns every bit of that reputation.
It draws a mix — families, couples, birders, people who just want to get out of JB for a weekend without going too far. Not a hardcore jungle crowd. Not glampers either. Just people who appreciate a clean site with a good view and something living in the trees nearby.
Getting There
The campsite is at PTD 542, Simpang Tenggaroh Selatan, Mukim Kambau Sedili, 81900 Kota Tinggi. From JB, you're looking at roughly 1.5 hours — east of the city, heading towards Kota Tinggi and then continuing towards the Sedili area. Search for Conway Campsite or use the Google Maps link — the road into Simpang Tenggaroh Selatan is manageable, no 4WD required based on what people are saying. Just a normal kampung road leading to the waterfront. If you pass Kingfisher Campsite, you haven't overshot — Conway Cove is right there beside it.
Call ahead before you drive out: 011-1617 1104. The manager, Mr. Faizal, is known to be responsive, so drop him a message to confirm availability and get directions if you need them.
What to Expect
This is a waterfront campsite with a mangrove backdrop. Flat ground, coastal air, and if you time it right — a sunrise that'll make you feel like the drive was nothing. The area around the campsite is genuinely alive with birdlife. Egrets, kingfishers, whatever else is hanging around the mangroves. If you're even slightly into birds or nature photography, this place will keep you occupied.
Crowd-wise, it gets busy during public holidays. Wing, who camped here during a holiday period, said it was packed — but the scenery made up for it. That tracks. On a regular weekend it's probably more manageable, but book early either way. This campsite and Kingfisher next door share the same crowd pool.
Suited for families, couples, and casual campers. Not for people who need a waterfall or a jungle trail. The draw here is the view, the birds, and the vibe of just sitting by the water. Bring a good camp chair and stay a while — you'll want to. Mr. Faizal runs the place and he's hands-on. Responsive before you arrive, attentive once you're there. That makes a difference when something comes up.
What Campers Are Saying
KM made a practical point that's worth passing on — Conway Cove and Kingfisher are practically the same spot. Same waterfront, same view. If one is full, go to the other. Good to know when you're planning a holiday weekend trip and the first choice is booked solid.
Nizam drove out from JB and said the 1.5-hour journey was completely worth it. Clean toilet, water pressure, electricity, musollah — he ticked off the basics and the campsite delivered on all of them. His energy about the place comes through: "so much things to do, so little time." That's someone who didn't want to leave.
Cyn Ponggoron is clearly a birder, and she was over the moon. Egrets landing in the mangroves when she arrived, kingfishers out in the open — and Mr. Faizal making sure everyone was looked after throughout the stay. She specifically said he was super responsive and friendly. That kind of management makes a campsite.
Wing camped here during a holiday — crowded, but the scenery was unforgettable. That's the kind of honest review you can actually use. If you hate crowds, avoid public holiday weekends. If the view is the priority, you'll survive the crowd.

Go for the sunrise. Seriously. Set an alarm, get out of your tent early, and just be at the waterfront before 7am. Multiple people bring this up unprompted — it's not just a nice bonus, it might be the best thing about Conway Cove. Facing east over the water, mangroves on the side, birds starting to move — that's the moment this campsite is made for. Don't sleep through it.
