The Vibe

This is a proper river campsite — the kind where you fall asleep to the sound of rushing water and wake up wanting to just stay another night. Camp Adventure By The River Kerling is in Kerling, Selangor, tucked along Sungai Kerling, and it gives off that semi-wild camping feel without throwing you completely off the deep end (pun intended). The river is the main draw, full stop.

The crowd here leans heavily family — parents with kids who want to splash around without worrying too much about strong currents. But it's not a glamping resort. There's no WiFi sign, no fancy deco. Just grass, river, tents, and stars. The kind of place where the aunties set up a communal flysheet and somebody's always cooking something that smells good.

It has that kampung-adjacent energy. The campsite operator (CO) gets mentioned in almost every single review, and always positively. That says a lot. A good CO can make or break a campsite, and this one clearly takes care of people.

Getting There

The campsite is along Jalan Berlian Utama in Kerling, 44100 Selangor. Kerling town is accessible via the Batang Kali–Kerling road, roughly between Kuala Kubu Bharu and Tanjung Malim. If you're coming from KL, hop on the PLUS highway northbound and exit at Rawang, then head toward Kuala Kubu Bharu and follow the road toward Kerling town. Use the Google Maps CID link to be safe — the signage at the entrance is reportedly kecil sangat and easy to miss.

One thing to flag: reviewers consistently mention that the entrance road is rough, bumpy, and rocky. Low-clearance cars are going to have a bad time. You don't necessarily need a 4WD, but if you're driving a Myvi slammed low, you'll want to take it very slowly. SUV or at least a stock-height sedan is your best bet.

What to Expect

The campsite has a few different spots — G1 and A2 seem to be the most popular. G1 is the bigger lot, flat enough for 5–7 tents plus a communal flysheet area, and it sits right next to the river. A2 is more rocky — fits about 3 tents max and has that raw, riverside feel. Some spots are slightly slanted so bring extra pegs and check your ground before pitching.

The river itself has big boulders, some deeper pockets, and some slippery stones — manageable, but you'll want to keep an eye on the small kids. It's not a lazy stream. There's actual flow here, which is why it sounds so good at night. On the plus side, there's also a pool on site if you want a safer option for the young ones.

Crowd-wise, it gets busy during weekends and school holidays. The site is grassy so don't expect a sandy setup. Nights can be warm — there's no natural wind tunnel here — so if you run hot, you'll feel it. It's not a hardcore campsite but it's also not a manicured resort. Think somewhere in between, tilted toward the wilder side. First-timers can handle it, but managing expectations helps.

Facilities

Toilets & Showers

All-in-one cubicles — toilet and shower combined. There are 4 units total. Reviewers consistently say they're clean and decent. Don't expect resort quality, but you won't regret going in either.

Sinks

Two kitchen-style wash sinks for doing dishes. Water pressure on the taps is reportedly strong, which is always appreciated after a full day of cooking over a stove.

Electricity & Lighting

Solar lamps around the site at night — so it's not pitch black. There are 2 plug points near the toilet area that operate from 7pm to 1am only. They're shared, so bring a powerbank or a portable power station if you need overnight charging. Each campsite lot does not have its own dedicated plug.

Pool

There's a pool on site — good option if you want a controlled swim area for younger kids who aren't ready for the boulders and currents in the river.

Parking

Parking exists but reviewers staying at the riverside spots (like A2) mention it's quite a distance from the toilet and parking area. Loading and unloading gear will take a few trips. Worth knowing before you pack your whole kitchen.

Prayer Space

No surau on site. Muslim campers will need to solat outdoors — lay down your sejadah, estimate the qiblat, and go. Not ideal, especially if your tent is small. Worth planning for if you're going for a full weekend.

What Campers Are Saying

A camper who stayed at A2 riverside said she loved falling asleep to the sound of the rushing river. Her kids had a blast in the water. Her one gripe — and it's a fair one — is that the dried leaves along both sides of the site could use a sweep. Minor thing, but when you're trying to set up camp, it does add to the clutter.

One reviewer who's relatively new to camping put it well: not perfect, but good. Toilets are clean, the site has lighting so you're not fumbling in the dark, and the kitchen sink situation is sorted. He flagged that firewood runs out fast — you should bring your own from home if you want a campfire. Also bring a campfire stand since the ground is grassy.

The crew who stayed at G1 said it was big enough for 5 tents plus a flysheet for a communal area — solid for a group trip. A few spots were a bit slanted but manageable. The night was warm though, so one reviewer specifically recommends bringing a portable fan.

Multiple people singled out the CO as genuinely helpful — not just going through the motions. One group visited during durian season and the CO offered them fresh durians at a good price. That kind of thing makes a trip.

The consensus on the river: clear, cold, fun, family-friendly — but watch for the slippery stones and the deeper sections. It's not a paddling pool, it's a real river. Respect it accordingly.

TAHAN Tip

Book G1 if you're coming with a group — it's the flattest, biggest lot and sits right next to the river. If you want a more intimate, rawer feel, take A2, but bring fewer tents and expect rocky ground. Either way, arrive early enough to set up before the 7pm lighting kicks in. And seriously — bring firewood from home. The site runs out, especially on weekends, and there's nothing worse than a campfire-less night when everyone's already in the mood for one.
