The Vibe

This one's different. You're setting up camp inside an oil palm estate in Ulu Kalong, Batang Kali — and honestly, it works. The tall, evenly-spaced palm trees give the whole place this wide, breezy feel. One camper said it reminded them of being at the beach, minus the sand. I get it. There's something about that open-sky, shaded-but-not-claustrophobic setup that just feels right.

The main draw here is the three natural pools — two hot, one cold — filled with spring and underground water. The hottest pool reportedly has high zinc content, which some campers swear helps with eczema and sensitive skin. Kids spend hours in there. Adults don't do much better. You come for the pools and end up staying for the stars. Seriously — on weekday nights with minimal guests, this place gets almost pitch dark. The kind of dark where you actually see stars. Rare for a Selangor campsite this accessible.

The campsite dogs — Xiao Bai, Coffee, and Jack — are part of the deal. They'll patrol your site, steal your heart, and probably beg for your dinner. The owners are known to be friendly and approachable. The whole vibe is relaxed, semi-wild, family-friendly. Not glamping. Not hardcore. Somewhere in between — and that's exactly the sweet spot.

Getting There

Head towards Batang Kali from KL via Rawang. From there, follow signs to Hulu Yam Bharu (Hulu Yam Lama junction). Once you're in Hulu Yam Bharu, keep an eye out for Holistay Forest Villa — 2K Hotspring is just a few hundred metres from there. The road signs for '2K' are small and easy to miss, so set your GPS using the Google Maps CID link or search for the full address: Jalan Kampung Ulu Kalong, Hulu Yam Bharu, 44300 Batang Kali. Road coverage for most telcos is weak — two bars on a good day. Download your offline maps before you leave.

The access road is manageable for normal cars. No 4WD needed. Parking is right next to your campsite — you can park literally beside your tent, which is a bonus when you're lugging cooler boxes and gear.

What to Expect

The campsite is divided into multiple zones, and they're generous with space. Zone B1 alone can fit eight big tents comfortably. Groups will love this — no kampung-style squeezing. The ground is mostly grassed, which makes tent pitching easier and more comfortable. Zones are laid out at different elevations, so the landscape has actual character — not just a flat field.

That said, pick your spot wisely. Some zones are on lower ground and get waterlogged when it rains. One family learned this the hard way — tent drenched, ground muddy by morning. Ask the owner which zones drain better before you set up.

Daytime can get hot — you're in an oil palm estate, not a rainforest. Wind doesn't always show up. There were also complaints about flies during the day. It's a real outdoor setting, so manage expectations accordingly. But come nightfall, it genuinely transforms. The light pollution drops, the temperature cools, and if you're lucky you catch a full moon or a proper starry sky. A couple of campers who stayed two nights saw a gorgeous sunset on night one and a full moon on night two. That's a good weekend right there.

This is a great spot for families with kids, groups of friends, and beginner-to-intermediate campers. The car-side parking and spacious plots make gear management easy. Facilities

Hot Spring Pools

Three pools — two hot, one cold. All filled with natural spring and underground water. The smaller hot pool is the warmest. The larger hot pool is more lukewarm. Kids love all three. The zinc-rich water is said to be good for skin conditions.

Toilets

Multiple cubicles available, but depending on your zone, they can be 100–200 metres away. Not ideal at 3am. Sensor lights in the toilets reportedly don't work well at night. Bring your own torchlight — non-negotiable here.

Water

Piped spring water on site. Clean enough for showering and washing dishes. Each zone has its own tap for hand-washing, which is a nice touch.

Parking

You can park right next to your tent. This is a big deal for families. No lugging gear across a field.

Lighting

Minimal site lighting — which is actually a selling point for stargazers. But if you need to move around camp at night, you're on your own. Bring a good lantern. Weak. Two bars on Digi reported. Don't rely on data. Tell someone where you're going.

Pets

What Campers Are Saying

One experienced camper who went on a weekday night said there were only two groups on site — and with everyone controlling their own lighting, the campsite was almost pitch dark. He got a proper starry sky, something he noted many newer campsites can't offer anymore because of excessive communal lighting. He's going back. That says a lot.

A family who stayed two nights in September raved about Zone B1's size — they had two big tents, one small tent, a large dome, and two cars parked alongside, and still had space to breathe. They caught a beautiful sunset on night one and a full moon on night two. The kids played in the pools for hours. The only gripes: flies during the day, no wind, distant toilets, and the phone signal being terrible.

One family noted the hot spring pools are the real highlight — especially the warmest pool, which is said to help with eczema and rashes due to the zinc content. They loved the boss and lady boss, who they described as genuinely warm and welcoming.

On the flip side, one group who set up on lower ground got caught out by rain. Their tents got soaked and the ground turned muddy overnight. A good reminder to ask about drainage before picking your plot.

TAHAN Tip

Book on weekdays if you want the real experience. Fewer campers means less ambient light, which means actual stars. On weekends it's a different story — busier, brighter, and the pools get crowded. Also, before you pitch, ask the owner to point you to the higher-ground zones. The lower zones look nice but they turn into a swamp after a downpour. And please — don't forget a torchlight. The toilet sensor lights are unreliable, and you do not want to be navigating 150 metres of palm estate in full darkness at midnight.
