The Vibe

Zen Forest is a managed glamping and camping retreat sitting up in the hills near Bentong, Pahang. You're not roughing it here — this place is set up properly, with multiple zones (Eden, Glade, and more), villa options, and staff who actually care about the experience. Think less jungle survival, more intentional escape from the city. The kind of place you bring your partner for a proper reset, or your family when everyone needs a break but nobody wants to sleep on bare ground.

The surroundings are a mix of forest and palm farms, and reviewers keep mentioning the 360-degree views from the summit area — especially if you catch sunrise or a clear night sky. There's a peaceful, almost slow quality to the place. No river rushing past your tent, no waterfall to hike to. Just hills, clean air, and quiet. And for a lot of people, that's exactly what they came for.

Weekday crowd is minimal — one couple reportedly had the entire campsite to themselves on a weekday stay. Weekends are busier but the place is well-organised enough that it doesn't feel chaotic. Staff provide transport to activity spots around the site, which is a nice touch especially if you're not keen on trekking everywhere yourself.

Getting There

Zen Forest is located along Kg Sungai Bot, Manchis, on the Karak highway stretch leading towards Bentong — about 23km into the Manchis area. From KL, you're looking at roughly 1 hour 45 minutes depending on traffic. Take the Karak Highway (E8) and keep your eyes out for signage towards Manchis or Sungai Bot. The road leading in passes through palm farm territory, so don't be surprised by the scenery shift.

No 4WD required based on what reviewers say — standard cars should be fine. That said, call ahead (016-397 1181) to confirm road conditions especially if you're going after heavy rain. The address on Google Maps is solid — just search for Zen Forest Malaysia or use the Google Maps CID link they've provided and it should bring you right there.

What to Expect

Zen Forest runs multiple zones — Eden and Glade are the two mentioned most. Glade was under renovation at one point, so Eden has been the go-to. Each zone has its own feel, and certain spots like lot E1 in Eden give you a direct hill view that's genuinely worth requesting when you book. There's also a villa option for those who want something more enclosed and comfortable.

Activities are available on-site and staff will ferry you around to different spots — handy if you're not up for walking the whole place. The summit viewpoint is a highlight, especially for sunrise or stargazing at night. Facilities are well-maintained across the board. This is not a place where things are falling apart or where you're left to figure everything out yourself.

Best suited for: couples looking for a quiet getaway, families who want a comfortable nature experience, and first-time campers who want a proper introduction to outdoor stays without the chaos. If you're chasing hardcore jungle vibes or river camping, this isn't your spot. But if you want something organised, clean, and genuinely relaxing — Zen Forest delivers.

Facilities

Toilets & Showers

Newly renovated, clean, bright lighting, good water pressure, working heater (Joven brand). Multiple reviewers flagged this specifically — it's actually one of the better-maintained toilet setups for a campsite. No complaints here.

Refrigerator & Ice

Every zone has a fridge on site. There's also a freezer stocked with ice in case you run out for your cooler. Someone thought of the details here, and it shows.

Villa / Accommodation

Fully equipped kitchen, clean rooms, comfortable setup. The villa option is there if you want the nature experience without sleeping in a tent.

Transport

Staff provide shuttle or transport to activity spots within the campsite. Good if the place is spread out or you've got kids in tow.

Summit Area

There's a viewpoint at the summit — reportedly stunning views of surrounding mountains. Worth the trip up, especially at dawn.

What Campers Are Saying

One couple who stayed on a weekday said they basically had the whole campsite to themselves — total peace and quiet. They were moved from Campsite Glade (renovation in progress) to Eden and ended up loving lot E1 for the hill view. Their one heads-up: check the ground carefully for soldier ants before you lay down your groundsheet. Apparently their bites are no joke.

A solo traveller who drove 1 hour 45 minutes from KL said it was her best campsite out of three she'd visited — 360-degree views, quiet surroundings, helpful staff, and clean facilities throughout. She caught stars at night and was gunning for a sunrise at the summit. Said she'd go back without hesitation.

A family group who stayed in the villa over a weekend pointed out how responsive and organised the team was — shoutout to Mr Hairi specifically for going above and beyond. The summit view got mentioned again. Seems like everyone who makes it up there comes back raving about it.

Across the board, the common thread is this: the staff are genuinely good at their job. Responsive from the first inquiry, helpful during the stay, and the place stays clean because someone is clearly on top of it. For a glamping spot, that's not always a given.

TAHAN Tip

Request lot E1 in Zone Eden when you book — it overlooks the hills directly and gives you the best view on site. Also, go up to the summit area at dawn before breakfast. The sunrise there is worth setting an alarm for. If you're a light sleeper, the weekday timing tip from regulars is real — the difference between a full weekend crowd and a quiet Tuesday night here is massive.
