You know how sometimes you just need to get out of the city but you can't take a 3-hour drive? Yunkai is that campsite. Situated in Genting Sempah, Bentong, it's barely 30 minutes from KL — and yet the moment that jeep drops you off at the top, you feel like you've left the city entirely. Cool air, open skies, and a view that hits different, especially at sunset.

This place draws a mixed crowd — couples, small families, friend groups, even people who bring their dogs and rooftop tents. It's got that managed campsite energy without feeling like a resort. The owner and team clearly care about the place. Free vegetables from their farm, jeep pickup service, clean toilets in every zone — that's effort you don't see at every campsite in Malaysia.

Fair warning though: Yunkai sits right along the road up to Genting Highlands. Meaning you will hear cars — especially those guys revving their sports cars uphill. It's a real issue, especially at night. If you're a light sleeper, kenalah prepare mentally for it.

Getting There

Head to Genting Sempah, Bentong — the campsite address is Genting Sempah, 28750 Bentong, Pahang. You can use Google Maps and search for Yunkai Campsite or use this link: Google Maps. The road up is typical Genting-style highway — straightforward but winding. Once you reach the designated car park area, don't try to drive yourself up to the campsite. The owner will arrange a 4WD jeep pickup. Takes about 10 minutes to get up. That's part of the experience, honestly.

What to Expect

Multiple zones, so the experience depends on where you set up. Zone A is the one most people rave about — each lot is a generous 3m x 10m, and the sunset view from there is genuinely something. If you're coming for the views, request Zone A when you book.

The terrain is a mix — some areas have concrete slabs laid out for easier walking, but the slope access is red clay with small rocks. Fine when it's dry, but when it rains, you'll want proper footwear. Watch your step, especially if you're heading to the toilet zones at night.

Crowd-wise, it gets busy on weekends — the kind of busy where a noisy group could ruin your night (which has happened based on reviews). Weekdays would give you a much quieter experience. The campsite is good for beginners and families — nothing hardcore, no jungle trek required. The jeep does the heavy lifting. Speaking of which, sleeping in cold highland weather without proper gear is genuinely uncomfortable. Not mentioned by any reviewer. Assume none — bring a powerbank or a rechargeable lantern.

Parking

Designated car park at the base. You park there and get ferried up by jeep. Don't try to drive your own car up.

Tables and Chairs

The team provides tables and chairs — at least one reviewer was pleasantly surprised by this. Don't count on it 100% but it's been offered.

Pets

Pet-friendly. At least one camper brought their dog up and it was fine. There's also a friendly resident dog and cat on site — maybe tapau some kibble for them.

What Campers Are Saying

The most consistent thing across all reviews is the view and the hospitality. One couple said it exceeded every expectation — the team gave them free vegetables, probably from the farm on site, and the whole stay felt personal and well taken care of. That's the kind of thing you remember.

A group who stayed 2D1N highlighted that almost every zone has a breathtaking view, not just one or two spots. They also appreciated that the jeep pickup isn't just a gimmick — it's genuinely convenient, especially when you're hauling gear.

He also called out the water heater in the shower as a small but meaningful touch when you're camping in chilly weather. His only gripe? The road noise from Genting-bound cars going through the night. Not occasional noise — constant.

The sunset and overall view from Zone A is noticeably better than the other zones based on what campers say. Also, if you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Seriously. The Genting road noise is not something you can tune out naturally. Plan to arrive in the late afternoon so you get the full sunset experience from the top — that's the money shot at Yunkai.
