The Vibe

Cameron Highlands camping is hit or miss. Most sites up there are either overpriced glamping setups or basic patches of grass with questionable toilets. Treegrow Camp at Ringlet sits somewhere different — it's a proper campsite, well-run, car camping friendly, and honestly refreshing to visit. You're in the highlands, so the air is cool, the mornings are misty, and at night you're looking at stars with nothing blocking the view.

The campsite is right next to working vegetable and corn farms. That's the trade-off you sign up for here. Flies during the day are real — the kind that come with organic farming. But they're gone by evening, and the caretaker actually hands out fly sticky traps if it bothers you. That's the level of management we're talking about. The staff here genuinely care about the place. It shows in everything — from how the toilets are maintained to how they'll go buy chicken wings on their lunch break if you ask nicely enough.

This is a great spot for families, friend groups doing car camping, and anyone who wants highland weather without roughing it too hard. If you're the type who brings a full kitchen setup and wants a comfortable base — this is your place. If you're looking for a jungle trek or riverside splash, look elsewhere. Treegrow is about good views, cool air, and surprisingly excellent facilities.

Getting There

The address is Lot 182, Mukim Habu, 39200 Ringlet, Pahang. Ringlet is the first main town you hit when you enter Cameron Highlands from the Tapah route — before you reach Brinchang or Tanah Rata. So if you're coming from KL, head up the Karak Highway or the Tapah road (Route 59) up into the highlands. Once you're in Ringlet town, the campsite is in the Habu area nearby. Use the Google Maps CID link to pin it accurately — the address alone might confuse Waze.

The road up to Cameron Highlands is paved but windy. Nothing that requires a 4WD, your regular sedan will be fine. Just don't rush the corners. Cameron roads at night are dark and narrow in parts, so arrive before sundown if you can, especially if it's your first time.

What to Expect

This is car camping, flat ground, open field — very accessible. Temperatures at night drop to around 18°C, daytime sits around 24°C. You'll want a sleeping bag rated for cool weather and a windbreaker for nighttime. It does get breezy — one camper mentioned needing 30cm pegs to stop their flysheet from flapping away in the wind. Take that seriously.

Campsite is well-organised and maintained — grass is kept, facilities are cleaned daily. There are some wild cats around but the owner responds fast when reported. The star gazing is legit — reviewers say you can actually get decent night sky shots on just a phone. That alone makes the highland altitude worth it.

Crowd-wise, it's quiet enough that one group managed to book the entire campsite for themselves on a weekday stay. Weekends might be busier but this isn't Tanah Rata — it's not crawling with tourists. Suited for: families, beginners, friend groups doing a chill 2-3 night stay. Also good for dog owners — one reviewer brought their dog and said it had a blast running around freely.

Facilities

Toilets

Multiple reviewers flagged this unprompted — it's genuinely one of the best toilet setups at any campsite in Malaysia. 5 female, 5 male cubicles. Spacious, with strong water pressure. Cleaned daily by staff. Rare stuff.

Hot Showers

Yes, hot water. In the highlands, this is not optional — it's essential. They've got it. No complaints from anyone.

Hair Dryer

Somehow they even have hair dryers. In a campsite. In the jungle-adjacent highlands. You'll either love this or feel like you're camping at a resort.

Wash Basin

Long stretch of sinks available. Good for washing up your cookware and gear without fighting over space.

Drinking Water

They use an eSpring water purification system on-site. Clean filtered water for drinking and cooking. That's a real thoughtful touch — most campsites just point you to the river.

Fridge

There's a fridge on-site. Useful for storing food overnight without worrying about the chill spoiling your stuff — or the wild cats getting into it.

Parking

Car camping setup means parking is available right at or near your tent spot. No long walks from the carpark.

What Campers Are Saying

Isaac and his crew booked the whole campsite for a 3-day 2-night trip and had the entire field to themselves on the second night. They moved their tents around until they found the best spot with the best view — something you rarely get to do at busier sites. His dog was in heaven. That kind of flexibility says a lot about how the place is managed.

The flies are the one thing almost everyone brings up. But the context matters — the campsite is surrounded by organic vegetable farms, and organic fertiliser means flies during the day. By evening they're done. The caretaker even offers fly sticky traps proactively, which multiple campers mentioned appreciating. One reviewer, Alicia, said the staff member knew about the issue and came prepared — that's the kind of management that earns repeat visits.

Joe called out the night view specifically — said you can get starry night shots on your phone without any special gear. That's highland altitude doing its thing. He also flagged the wind: tent pegs need to be at least 30cm or your setup is going sideways at 2am. Don't say you weren't warned.

Lim Hans — who's clearly been to a lot of campsites — said the toilets here are the best he's encountered. Full stop. Coming from someone who camps frequently, that's not a throwaway comment.

And then there's the fresh produce. Multiple campers bought sweetcorn and cherry tomatoes directly from the caretaker — Grade A stuff, straight from the farm next door. One group bought 10 corns in one go. If you're cooking at camp, this is actually a brilliant perk. TNG accepted at the plantation too, apparently.

TAHAN Tip

Plan your meals around the fresh produce from the caretaker. The sweetcorn and cherry tomatoes are farm-fresh and genuinely excellent — much better than anything you'd pack from the supermarket. Check with the caretaker when you arrive on what's available that day. Grilled corn over the camp stove with highland cool air? That's the move.
