The Vibe

Pasir Raja is one of those spots that doesn't try too hard. No fancy facilities, no Instagram-worthy glamping setups — just a clean, grassy riverside campsite tucked about 10km off the main road in Kuala Krai, Kelantan. The kind of place where you pitch your tent, let the kids loose at the river, and just... breathe.

It's popular with local families and campervan crews. On weekdays, you might even catch a Jamboree Campervan event happening here — so if you're into the campervan scene, this place has that community. The vibe is relaxed and kampung-feel. Nothing pretentious. And that shallow, rocky river? That's the main attraction.

It's also near Istana Sangkut, so there's a bit of historical context to the area if you're into that sort of thing. But honestly most people come for the river and the quiet.

Getting There

The campsite address is 886W+P3, Kuala Krai, Kelantan. From Kuala Krai town, you're looking at roughly 10km of road to get here — reviewers specifically called this out. The road leads you toward the Istana Sangkut area, so that's your landmark.

No reports of needing 4WD, so a regular car should be fine. That said, it's Kelantan interior — if it's been raining heavily, just be cautious. Call ahead at 012-600 4050 to confirm conditions before you make the drive. Or just use Google Maps and navigate from Kuala Krai town centre.

What to Expect

This is a beginner-friendly, family-oriented campsite. The river is shallow — good for kids, but the stones are covered in moss so it gets slippery. Warn your little ones before they go charging in. Adults too, honestly. One wrong step on a mossy rock and you're sitting down faster than you planned.

Parking is ample, which is great if you're rolling in with a big group or a campervan. The campsite itself is described as clean and tidy, which is a good sign — some of these riverside spots in Kelantan can get messy on weekends. The river water runs cool and clear. Views are nice. Nothing dramatic, just genuinely pleasant.

Tent rental is available on-site, along with blankets and standing fans for rent. So if someone in your group forgot their gear or you're bringing first-timers, it's manageable. That said, if you're sleeping overnight, bring a proper sleeping setup — renting a standing fan is fine for the heat, but you want something decent under you. The TAHAN Panthera Inflatable Sleeping Pad is what I bring to flat riverside campsites like this — 10cm thick with a built-in pump, and your back will thank you in the morning.

Facilities

Toilets

There are toilets with shower stalls on-site. Water pressure can vary — bring a headlamp or your phone torch for visibility. This is standard prep for riverside camping in Kelantan.

Water

River water is right there. Piped water for the toilets exists but pressure is inconsistent.

Electricity

Power points are available. As with many riverside campsites, bring a powerbank for your devices and a lamp for reliable lighting — the TAHAN Luminate Multifunction Lantern doubles as a powerbank and handles camp lighting in one shot.

Parking

Ample parking. Campervan-friendly. Wednesdays seem to attract campervan crowds based on the Jamboree events.

Rental Equipment

Tents, blankets, and standing fans available for rent on-site. Good safety net if you're testing camping for the first time.

Campervan enthusiasts appreciate the ample parking and community events. Common prep tips from repeat visitors: wear water shoes on the mossy rocks and bring a headlamp for the facilities. These are just normal bits of gear for riverside camping in Kelantan.

TAHAN Tip

Go on a weekday if you can. Weekends can get busy with families, and the better riverbank spots get taken fast. Weekdays are more chill — you might even catch a campervan gathering if that's your thing. Also, wear water shoes or sandals with grip when going into the river. Flip flops on mossy rocks is a one-way ticket to a sore backside.
