Logok Campsite, Johor — A Beachside Gem with One Very Annoying Catch

Logok Campsite in Johor is a clean beachside spot with grassy pitches and friendly staff — but there's one gate issue you seriously need to know about.

The Vibe

Logok Campsite is a beachside campsite along the Johor coastline, tucked behind a palm oil plantation. Yes, you read that right — you drive through oil palms and then suddenly, the sea opens up in front of you. It's one of those spots that feels low-key special once you're there. Clean beach, clear-ish water, hermit crabs everywhere doing their thing. Not the kind of place that tries too hard.

The crowd here is mostly families and weekend warriors from around Johor. It's not a party site — more of a chill, angin laut, duduk-diam-diam kind of place. The grass campsite means you're not fighting with sand in your sleeping bag, which is already a win in my books. Just don't expect a lot of natural shade — the tree cover is pretty minimal, so you'll want to come prepared for that.

Fees are RM10 per person. Affordable, sure. But there's one serious issue that one camper flagged — and it's not a small thing. The exit gate reportedly gets padlocked at 7PM with zero warning. No signage, no notice from staff, nothing. That's the kind of thing that can ruin an otherwise good trip, and it needs to be said upfront.

Getting There

The address is along Jalan Felda Tenggaroh Selatan, 81900, Johor. Here's the thing — Google Maps will drop you somewhere in the middle of the road. Don't panic and don't stop there. Keep driving further down and look for the signboards at the entrance. They're there, you just need to pass the point where Maps tells you to stop.

The road leading in is reportedly quite rough. Drive slow, take your time. You don't need a 4WD based on reviews, but don't come in a low-clearance city car and floor it — you'll regret it. If you're going on a weekend, leave earlier to avoid arriving in the dark, especially given the gate situation.

What to Expect

This is a sprawling campsite — lots of space to spread out and pick your spot. You can pitch your own tent on grass or rent a pre-built shelter. The grass pitching is actually a highlight for people who hate sand camping (guilty). Open sky views, sea breeze, and a clean beach right in front of you. Not bad for RM10 a head.

Shade is the main thing to plan around. There aren't many trees, so midday can get brutal. Bring an extra flysheet or a tarp to rig up your own shade shelter — this isn't optional, it's necessary. Early mornings and evenings are when this place really shines. The beach is clean, the sea is calm, and there are hermit crabs everywhere if you've got kids tagging along.

This spot suits families and casual campers best. It's not a hardcore jungle experience — it's a relaxed coastal weekend. Beginners can handle this one easily. Just know about the gate closing time and plan accordingly.

Facilities

Toilets

Five toilet blocks spread across the site, which is actually pretty good coverage. Downside: some doors don't close properly and a few have no hangers. Usable, but bring your own hook if you're particular about that.

Showers

Showers are available but cold water only. No heater. For a beach campsite in Johor, it's fine — the weather's warm enough. But know going in.

Surau

There's a surau on site and reviewers say it's clean. Could use a fan for comfort, but it's a solid facility to have at a campsite like this.

Shelters for Rent

Pre-built shelters available if you don't want to pitch. Good fallback option if you're coming without a full setup.

Staff

Multiple reviewers mentioned the staff are genuinely helpful and friendly. That counts for a lot. Just watch out for the security guard situation at the gate — that part clearly needs work.

What Campers Are Saying

Suhaimi, who's camped along this whole stretch of east coast Johor, says Logok is his favourite of the lot. His main piece of advice: pitch on the grass (not that there's much choice here), and bring your own flysheet because tree shade is almost non-existent. Coming from someone who's done the whole coastline, that says something.

Alicia gave it five stars but flagged the Google Maps issue straight away — the pin drops you in the middle of the road. She found the beach clean, the water clear, and the hermit crabs entertaining. No heater in the showers, but she wasn't bothered. Well-maintained overall, she said.

John, who gave it four stars, praised the space and the toilet spread — five locations across the site is generous. He called the staff a big plus, and I'd agree. Friendly staff can save a mediocre campsite. Only gripe was the dodgy toilet doors and missing hangers.

Fiza said it was a proper getaway — the kind of place you bring family or close friends when you need to disconnect. Workers were helpful, surau was clean. Her only suggestion: add a fan to the surau. Small thing.

Raja Basri, on the other hand, had a genuinely bad experience and I'm not going to gloss over it. After finishing up around 7PM, his whole group got locked inside the campsite. Gate was padlocked. Security guard ignored the honking. They eventually had to cross the main road just to get someone to open it. No signs, no warning, nothing. He's got video. That's a real SOP failure and it's something management needs to fix — like, yesterday. If you're heading to Logok, find out the gate closing time before you go in, not after.

TAHAN Tip

Ask the staff about the gate closing time the moment you arrive — before you set up, before anything. Get it confirmed. Then set a reminder on your phone. That one thing could save your whole trip from turning into a nightmare. Don't assume it's the same as other campsites you've been to.
