The Vibe

This one's for the crowd who wants the beach experience without the struggle of setting up a tent in the dark. ABC — short for Aliyya Beachfront Campsite — is a fully-managed glamping spot sitting right on the seafront in Pengerang, Johor. You're not roughing it here. The tents are pre-pitched, the fans are running, and all you really need to bring are your blankets and towels. Think of it less as camping, more as sleeping in a cozy tent with the ocean right outside your door.

The place fronts Desaru Beach area, so the sound of waves is real and constant. At night, lying in your tent listening to the sea — honestly, nothing beats that. It's the kind of thing that makes you realise how badly you needed to get out of KL. Families love it here. Kids are free to roam the beach while the adults finally get to do nothing for a change.

The whole setup has a relaxed, kampung-by-the-sea energy. Not overly glamorous, not rustic to the point of suffering. Right in the sweet spot for families and couples who want comfort without leaving nature entirely behind. If you're the type who needs a solid itinerary to enjoy camping, this place is going to suit you well — the host does a lot of the heavy lifting so you can just enjoy being there.

Getting There

Head to Lot 1306, Kampung Punggai, 81600 Pengerang, Johor. Drop the Google Maps pin (cid=12767137771029065875) into your navigation and it should take you there without drama. Pengerang is in the southeastern tip of Johor — if you're coming from KL, you're looking at roughly 3.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic. From JB city, it's about 1.5 hours.

The road into Kampung Punggai is tarmac all the way — no 4WD needed. But the last stretch through the kampung can be a bit narrow, so go slow and follow the signage. If you get confused, just call ahead: 011-2868 9033. The host is responsive. Better to call than to drive around in circles in the dark.

What to Expect

Flat beachfront ground, pre-pitched tents, and a proper sandy beach right in front of you. The beach is clean — reviewers specifically mentioned it — so your kids can actually play on it without you worrying too much. The campsite isn't massive, so it maintains a fairly intimate atmosphere. You're not surrounded by hundreds of strangers.

Crowd-wise, weekends will obviously be busier. But because it's a managed glamping site with set capacities, it never feels like a festival ground. Suited for families, couples, and friend groups who want a chill beach getaway. Not the place for hardcore campers looking for a challenge — if that's you, Endau Rompin is down the road and will sort you out. But if you just want to relax by the sea, ABC delivers.

One thing to be aware of: at least one reviewer booked expecting a tent but ended up with only a parking spot behind a tent. The booking process has been flagged as a bit confusing. Read the booking details carefully. If you're unsure what's included, call them and confirm before you make the trip down.

Facilities

Tents

Pre-pitched and set up for you. Each tent comes with a fan and aircond. Even the fan alone is apparently enough to keep you comfortable through the night. Bring your own blanket and towel — those aren't provided.

Toilets

Clean and well-maintained. Come equipped with bidet and shower facilities. Reviewers were generally happy with the cleanliness here.

Water

Cold water only — no water heater. If you're the type who needs a hot shower, brace yourself. That said, a cold shower by the beach at night has its own kind of charm. Maybe.

Tent Cleaning

Daily tent cleaning service is provided — the host sweeps out sand and dirt so the inside stays comfortable. Nice touch that most campsites don't bother with.

BBQ

Available as an add-on. The host will set the whole thing up and manage it for you start to finish if you want. The mutton BBQ comes recommended by multiple reviewers. Worth adding on.

What Campers Are Saying

A mum who came with her kids absolutely loved it — said she finally got to lie down and fall asleep to the sound of waves while her children happily explored the beach on their own. She called it the kind of peace she didn't realise she'd been craving. Her take: if you're escaping the KL grind even for a short break, this one's worth it.

Joseph came with a group and went for the BBQ add-on. Said the host handled everything from start to finish — no fuss, no stress. The daily tent cleaning is something he specifically appreciated. Only gripe? Cold showers. No water heater on site. He's still going back though, so clearly not a dealbreaker.

One reviewer from her first-ever campsite trip said the whole experience was genuinely enjoyable — invited by close friends, first time camping, came back saying it felt like mind therapy. The sound of the sea while sleeping in a tent hit different for someone who'd never tried it before.

There's also a fun story floating around — the host mentioned turtles have been spotted here before. Baby turtles making their way back to the ocean. You'd have to be lucky to catch it, but the fact that it's even possible makes this spot feel a little more special.

One cautionary note from a group: they thought their booking included a tent but it turned out they'd only booked a parking spot behind one. Booking system is a bit ambiguous — confirm everything in writing or over the phone before you show up.

TAHAN Tip

When you book, WhatsApp the host directly at 011-2868 9033 to confirm exactly what's included in your package — tent, meals, BBQ add-on, everything. The booking has confused at least one group before. Do this before you drive down from KL. Also, add the BBQ mutton. Seriously, just do it.
